ASSIGNMENT 2 GUIDE: GROUP PRESENTATION

Task: Group Presentation

Topic: Module 4 topics

Instructions:
1. Group Formation and Topic Selection
Each group of 4-5 students will report on an assigned topic under Module 4: Selected
Gender Issues in the Philippines. Topic assignment will be based on draw lots.
Schedule of reporting will follow the course guide/weekly study guide, unless
otherwise stated by the instructor. Your topic for the group presentation will also be
the topic for your final project.

2. Research and Preparation


The course pack includes learning resources for all the topics under module 4. Apart
the sources provided, please consult other sources that will help you enrich the
discussion. Please include statistics, real-life examples, and potential solutions. This
will also help you prepare for your final project. You may interview someone to help
you gain a more nuanced understanding on the issue. Please consider the
intersectionality of the issue (socioeconomic factors and other factors that intersect
with gender)

3. Group Presentation (Maximum of 40 minutes)


When you present your research to the class. Please make sure that you cover key
aspects of the issue:
a. What is the issue? Situate it to the Philippine context.
b. What are the underlying causes? What are the contributing factors? How do
social structures, such social institutions, gender norms, and societal
expectations, perpetuate the problem?
c. What are the social implications? What happens if the issue is left
unaddressed? How will the normalization of the issue affect individuals?
d. How do other factors, such as socioeconomic factors, intersect with gender?
Are the poor or minors more vulnerable?
e. Are there relevant government programs, laws or other legal policies currently
addressing the issue?

f. What can we do to promote change?

4. Q&A (20 minutes)


 Members of the other groups can share their insights, ask questions, and
provide suggestions on how to address the issue. The groups can articulate
their suggestions better in the designated discussion forum.

5. Discussion
 We will wrap up the discussion with a summary of the key aspects of the
issue, government interventions, and possible solutions.
