TST Files federal lawsuit Against

Idaho and Indiana

The Satanic Temple has launched new lawsuits against Indiana and Idaho as part of our continued focus on
our Religious Reproductive Rights Campaign. Both states now have near-total bans on abortion, with
exceptions only for rape or incest, and we are fighting to ensure that our members’ access to abortion and
reproductive healthcare is protected by law.

The legal arguments we are using in both lawsuits focus on bodily autonomy. For example, forced pregnancy
can be considered involuntary servitude, which is unconstitutional under the Thirteenth Amendment.
Moreover, if the government compels you to use your uterus for their benefit without compensation, that is
an unconstitutional seizure of property under the Fourth Amendment. The exception these laws carve out for
pregnancies resulting from rape and incest also fails the “equal protection” clause of the Fourteenth
Amendment because it creates two classes of pregnant persons and legally protects access to abortions for
one and not the other.

Finally, we are making the same argument we made in previous lawsuits: abortion bans infringe upon our
members’ religious freedoms by barring their ability to practice their religion. As described in the Third Tenet,
respect for bodily autonomy is one of our core values and is specifically invoked when our members perform
the Satanic Abortion Ritual. When the government imposes its will on the body of any member of The Satanic
Temple, it violates their religious freedom.

After School Satan Club Hosts

Back-to-School Night in
Pennsylvania

The After School Satan Club's Back-To-School Night at Northern High School was a huge success, with more
than thirty students and their parents attending the event in York County, PA. One of the evening's highlights
was a 100-pound Hypo Burmese Python named Limelight, who amazed and fascinated everyone who got to
hold her. Other crowd-pleasing attractions included face painting, a geode exploration booth, and Halloween
arts and crafts. It was no surprise that attendees did not want the night to end. Many stayed long after the
event to continue enjoying the activities and having fun with their new friends.

Face painting, snakes, reptiles, and more! The kids had a fantastic time and were delighted by the unique experiences at ASSC’s Back-
To-School Night fundraiser. Many attendees stayed long after the event ended to continue the fun.

ASSC’s Back-To-School Night fundraiser raised almost $600 for school supplies for the teachers and students
at Northern High School. Unfortunately, Superintendent Steve Kirkpatrick is more interested in snubbing
Satanists than helping his teachers and students: he refused to accept TST’s school supply donation. To
ensure the funds and supplies will support the community that raised them, the ASSC will continue to search
for ways to distribute the donations to educators in the Dillsburg community.

The superintendent’s behavior is only the most recent in a long history of actions showing a clear religious
discrimination pattern. Earlier this year, this same school district blocked the ASSC from forming a club a
parent of one of their students had requested. Following the initial denial by the Northern York County School
District in April, one administrator commented that if the ASSC removed the ‘Satan’ label, the club would
likely be approved. Then, over the summer, the same school approved the use of their auditorium for a
“Worship and Prayer Night” for students, at which the President of the Board of Education led the opening
prayer. The Satanic Temple is preparing litigation against the school district for religious discrimination.

Crowd favorites Limelight the Hypo Burmese Python and Nadja the Tarantula demonstrated the importance of acting with
compassion and empathy toward all creatures. This event was a huge success thanks to TST Philadelphia and Eastern PA
congregation members’ tireless efforts!

The Back-To-School Night fundraiser at Northern High School was so successful that ASSC is exploring many
invitations to host Back-to-School and other special school events all over the country from parents who are
interested in seeing a different perspective and a welcoming environment for different minority religions at
their child's school. If your local public school hosts religious clubs or events and you would like to learn

Congregations Collaborate with

the Satanic Good Works Campaign
to Help Their Communities

This summer, TST congregations across the United

States have collaborated with the Satanic Good
Works Campaign to raise thousands of dollars
worth of food, clothing, and necessary health and
medical supplies to support their local communities.
We would like to give special recognition to TST
Illinois, who held their very first Menstruatin’ With
Satan drive in partnership with a local food pantry
in Chicago, raising nearly 17,000 menstrual
products valued at almost $2200.
TST Illinois collected a mountain of menstrual products to benefit
their local community.

TST Albany has also embarked on a unique Good

Works drive: they have partnered with
AnimalKind to organize a “Cat-Anic Panic” drive,
aiming to encourage the adoption of black cats
during October. Black cats are disproportionately
passed over for adoption and euthanized due to
their association with bad luck.

Poem No. 849 (This Moment)

By John S. Hall

Here we are
In this moment
We didn’t ask
To be here
We just kept going
And the days passed
And here we all are
In a sense
We are all here
At the same time
Experiencing
This same moment
Together
But in another sense
Each of us
Is having a different experience
Of this moment
So within this moment
There is
An infinite number of moments
All occurring
At the exact same time
In this exact moment
This isn’t something
You didn’t know
You probably also knew
About sorted and assorted
Today might just be a day
When I babble on
About the obvious
If so
I hope I
Stop soon
And I hope
I haven’t
Ruined this moment

John S. Hall is a poet/spoken word artist, musician (if ukulele counts), and singer-songwriter. He has released
numerous recordings, including nine albums with various incarnations of his band, King Missile.

He is the author of a collection of poetry (Jesus Was Way Cool) and a self-help parody (Daily Negations), both on Soft
Skull Press, and over 100 unpublished children’s stories. His most recent releases may be found here and here.

Recipe

Cherry Tomato &

Red Beet Hummus

Ingredients
For your hummus:

1 bunch scallions 3 tbsp. lemon juice

2 pints cherry tomatoes 3 tbsp. garlic confit
1 large red beet 5 tbsp. garlic oil
1 bunch basil 2 tbsp. ground cumin
1 tbsp. tomato paste ½ a cup beet puree
16.5 ounces canned cooked chickpeas 5 tbsp. tahini
Salt to taste

For your salad:

1 tbsp. sherry vinegar ½ cut cherry tomatoes

1 tbsp. garlic oil 4 pieces of beet
1 teaspoon salt

Roast your beet until completely tender and remove the skin. Place four small pieces of beet
aside for your salad.

Puree 1 pint of cherry tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, cooked beets, and some of the
cooking water in a blender and set aside.

Add your chickpeas, garlic confit, garlic oil, cumin, and lemon juice, and purée until smooth in
a food processor. Add your beet purée and blend, then your tahini and salt to taste and blend,
stopping the food processor to scrape the sides with each step.

Mix your garlic oil, salt, and sherry vinegar in a bowl.

Cut your other pint of cherry tomatoes in half, slice your scallions, and add them to a bowl
with your 4 pieces of beets. Season with salt.

To serve, add your hummus to a plate and place your salad on top.

An extended version of this recipe can be found in Devils Food, a Satanic Cookbook.

Hail Satan.
