2021-2023: M.Sc. Geochemistry and Geotectonics. Geosciences Institute, University of São Paulo, São
Paulo, Brazil. -Patterns of Andean growth in the Ecuadorian Andes. -
I am investigating the age and rock uplift patterns of the Napo Uplift in the Ecuadorian Andes by
integrating the scarce published thermochronology data with new data into 2D and 3D thermokinematic
modeling using available methods. I obtained a regional database with 8 new apatite fission track (AFT)
ages (12-173 Ma), 4 new apatite U- Pb (AUPb)ages (70–185 Ma), and 9 (U-Th)/He (AHe) ages from
Jurassic magmatic rocks and Lower Cretaceous-Paleogene sedimentary rocks from the NU. Currently, I
am performing the thermochronological modeling of the database for subsequently reconstructing
kinematic-structural restitution. Altogether will allow calculating deformation and estimating rock uplift
patterns.
15/01/2023-15/04/2023: Scholarship for a Research Internship Abroad (RIA) – framed in the Master’s
project [Patterns of Andean growth in the Ecuadorian Andes), the RIA aimed mainly at direct
quantification of Uranium content and other multi-elemental data in apatites analysis using Laser Ablation
Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) at GeOHeLiS analytical platform –
Géosciences Rennes, University of Rennes, France.
- This technique allowed for the simultaneous acquisition of U-Pb and multi-elemental
geochemistry data, such as Cl, rare earth elements, and other trace elements commonly used in
AFT and provenance analysis (Chew and Spikings, 2015). In addition, AHe analyses were also
acquired using a facility recently established at Géosciences Rennes. Finally, geochronological
and geochemical detrital data were used to identify populations using a method recently
developed by Prof. Gallagher (See annex) and his group whereby individual populations are
independently modeled to estimate the thermal history of both, the sedimentary rock and its
source area (Wildman et al., 2020). Acquiring and interpreting thermochronological data with
these techniques will allow for a better characterization of the provenance and thermal histories
of the Ecuadorian Andes. Complementarily, I acquired proficiency in the data reduction schemes
(DRS) utilized in iolite for calculating isotopic and mass concentration in apatites from LA-ICP-
MS analysis. Under the guidance and tutoring of Nathan Cogné, a renowned expert in the LA-
ICP-MS method for AFT, I gained valuable knowledge and practical experience.
