‫ نَبِيِّنَا َو َحبِ ْيبِنَا‬، َ‫ف اَأل ْنبِيَا ِء َوالـ ُمرْ َسلِ ْين‬ ِ ‫صاَل ةُ َوال َّساَل ُم َعلَى َأ ْش َر‬ َّ ‫ َوال‬، َ‫الـح ْم ُد هللِ َربِّ ال َعالَـ ِم ْين‬

‫ َأ َّما بَ ْع ُد‬، ‫ َو َم ْن تَبِ َعهُ ْم بِِإحْ َسا ٍن ِإلَى يَوْ ِم ال ِّد ْي ِن‬، َ‫صحْ بِ ِه َأجْ ـ َم ِع ْين‬
َ ‫ـح َّم ٍد َو َعلَى آلِ ِه َو‬َ ‫ُم‬
First of all, let’s pray and thanks to Allah SWT because his blessings and mercies, we
can get together here without any troubles and obstacles. Secondly, may sholawat and salam
always be upon to our prophet Muhammad SAW who has guided us from the darkness to the
lightness.

Before I deliver my speech, let me introduce my self. My name is Ummi from

Muhammadiyah Elementary School of Karan. It’s such a great honor to be standing here in
front of you all to give a speech about “The Importance of Seeking Knowledge”

Ladies and Gentlemen

As we already know, education is very important for us, right?! But, do you know?
Why is it important??

Ladies and gentlemen

We were born in this world in a state of ignorance. Therefore, Allah commands us to

seek knowledge. Even in Islam, knowledge is one of the important things in this life, because
knowledge is like the light. People will not be able to walk in the dark without the light,
right?!

It’s like a human, we will not be able to distinguish between the bad things and the
good things without having knowledge. As what Allah SWT stated in the Holy Qur’an.
Al-Alaq: 1-5

‫س ِم هّٰللا ِ ال َّر ْحمٰ ِن ال َّر ِح ْي ِم‬

ْ ِ‫ب‬

َ ۚ َ‫ي َخل‬
١-‫ق‬ ْ ‫اِ ْق َرْأ بِا‬
ْ ‫س ِم َربِّكَ الَّ ِذ‬

ٍ ۚ َ‫سانَ ِمنْ َعل‬

٢–‫ق‬ َ َ‫َخل‬
َ ‫ق ااْل ِ ْن‬

٣ - ‫اِ ْق َرْأ َو َربُّ َك ااْل َ ْك َر ۙ ُم‬

٤ - ‫ي َعلَّ َم بِا ْلقَلَ ۙ ِم‬

ْ ‫الَّ ِذ‬

٥ - ‫سانَ َما لَ ْم يَ ْعلَ ۗ ْم‬

َ ‫ َعلَّ َم ااْل ِ ْن‬.
 Ladies and Gentlemen

What is the meaning of this verse? Anyone knows? It means that Allah commands us
to be smart people. This verse is started from the word ‫ اِ ْق َرْأ‬which means “Read!”. Allah
commands us to read because reading is a window to the world.

Ladies and Gentlemen

A nation will not develop if the level of education is not qualified. Is it right?? In
History, science becomes the glorious civilization. In this case, Islam also had reached the
heyday, one of them is a Dome of the Rock in Yerussalem as evidence of the glory of islam
in architecture. Alhamdulillah..

Ladies and Gentlemen

One thing that is great about knowledge is it is not only given through formal
education. It’s not only about textbooks but also lessons of life. It’s not only about sitting in
the class, but, we can get knowledge in everywhere, through anything such as internet,
youtube, etc. Basically Allah has explained that seeking knowledge is obligatory, because it
has been proven that everything will require knowledge. We can seek knowledge without the
limit because seeking knowledge is a lifelong process. It leads us to the right path and given
us a better life.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen..

There is no reason for us to stop seeking knowledge. And before I end my speech, I would
like to invite you all to increase our knowledge. Keep learning! And never stop it, because
this world needs people who have faith and knowledge to make a better world.

To end this speech, I would like to share a quote by Imam Ghozali

“Knowledge without Charity is Backwardness and Charity without knowledge is a

Waste”
