Part 1: Question and Answer

1. What are the loads subjected to structures according to National Structural Code of the
Philippines 2015? Define each load.

The loads that are subjected to structures according to NSCP 2015 are the following:

•Dead Loads- These are permanent, unchanging loads like the weight of the building and fixed
components, determined by construction materials.

•Live Loads- Live loads are dynamic loads that can vary in magnitude and location. They represent the
transient or moving loads imposed on a structure during its intended use and any other temporary loads
that may be present in or on the structure.

•Wind Loads- Forces from wind, varying based on location, building characteristics, and wind speed,
ensuring structural stability.

•Earthquake Loads- Forces during earthquakes, particularly important in seismically active areas,
calculated based on seismic hazards and building response.

•Soil Lateral Loads- Forces exerted by soil against basement or retaining walls, vital for below-ground
structure stability.

•Rain Loads- Additional weight due to accumulated rainwater on roofs and horizontal surfaces, requiring
proper drainage and structural design consideration.

•Flood Loads- Forces during floods, crucial for flood-prone areas, influencing the design of buildings and
flood control structures to prevent damage.

2. What are the load combinations according to National Structural Code of the Philippines 2015?

3. As per National Structural Code of the Philippines 2015 how roof live load is define? Show how to derive
roof live loading by showing sample solution.

In the NSCP 2015, the roof live load is defined as the additional load that a roof is designed to support, in
addition to the dead load. The live load is specified in terms of a uniform load per square meter of area
supported by the roof. To derive the roof live loading, the code provides a formula that takes into account
the roof slope and the type of roof. The formula is as follows:
