Varieties of language

Variety is a term used in socio-linguistics and stylistics to refer to any


system of linguistic expression where use is governed by situational
variables(David Crystal).

A language is used differently in different situations or places i.e. a


language varies in its use and it has many variations. These variations
are called varieties of language.
a) Dialect
b) Phonological difference( different in pronunciation)
c) Spelling difference
d) Lexical difference
e) Grammatical difference
f) Idiolect
