Introduction to Esports: Task 2 – Structure.

In this research task you will explore how esports is organized and structured
in the UK.

Students must fill out each box below to the expected minimum word count, all research
sources should be link at the bottom of each box, Wikipedia does not count as a research
source. Source links do not make up total word count of a question box.

What role does the government play?

The government supports the promotion of esports and sort of recognizes it as a credible
activity but not as an actual official sport, there is a british esports association, but it is not
funded and is not a governing body meaning the revenues they earn goes straight into the
organisation as they aren’t being financially supported by the government. About British

How is esports defined under UK law?

Esports is viewed as a game much like chess which means they do not count as a sport by
the UK government, yet people are pushing it to be established as an official professional
sport. However Esports is being introduced into education in the UK by various ministries
of education like Media.

What role do the British Esports Association play?

The British Esports Association is a non profit organisation that tries to achieve awareness
of the activity and promotion of Esports in the UK, they stated that they are not trying to
push Esports in to be recognised as an official sport but rather to have its own
establishment that can educate the youth and have support from the government to
continue its growth as a separate activity.

around the world, to bring out the best players of their respective game, it allows gamers
in general to have something to aspire to or to watch the best players of their favourite
games and or promote the popularity of new or old video games due to a large following

What tournaments take place in the UK?

Insomnia Gaming Festival, Epic.LAN, Commonwealth Esports Championships, British
Esports Student Champs, W.A.S.D., most of these tournaments take place in Birmingham,
London and various other players across the UK. Commonly known places such as the
Gfinity Esports Arena in London would attract lots of gamers and fans of Esports to watch
