I. ABSTRACT

The present study experimentally investigated the life situation of Juvenile

including his name, educational background, job, family status, parent’s situation and

source of living. We asked the juvenile how’s his life and his health. It is so sad to know

that this young participant was living a hard situation rather than enjoying it in school

with his friends. He is surviving his day by scavenging garbage. Using the small amount

of money, he earns from trading and scrapping, this is what he will budget for and

purchase food for them to eat with his mother. Upon asking him and knowing him well, it

touches our heart with the pain and sadness knowing that this juvenile deserves a

better life.

II. INTRODUCTION

Juvenile children under age or 18 below. A juvenile is a child or young person

who is not yet old enough to be regarded as an adult. We sought out street children to

interview them about their lives and how they get through each day with their families. It

was discussed here about how they would get food every day by trading with his

parents. Gilbert Ibanez an juvenile and his family earns 300 a day and spends their

whole day looking for other sources of livelihood. Gilbert Ibanez lives by the river at the

Kalaklan bridge in Olongapo City, their house patched with tarpaulins and other items

obtained and accumulated from scrapping. Every time his parents left to scrap garbage

and trade, Gilbert would go to the terminal of jeepney and to the market to beg some

food and money from strangers and help his parents. He uses this income to help his

parents with daily food and other expenses at their home on the side of the Kalaklan

Bridge.

While we were interviewing Gilbert we saw the lack of various needs of gilbert's

family where he was just a child, he was already learning to pull bones to help his

parents. It's sad to see a young person who early learned to work rather than study

because life is short. We also saw how Gilbert's lack of education affected him because

he did not know his age and name, only his parents told him how old he was. It's sad to

think someone like gilbert has experienced so much living that it's a problem to eat

every day.

IV. OBJECTIVES

At the age of 7 years old, Gilbert was no longer able to play like a normal child's life

while working, his health was affected due to the lack of food every day. At a very young

age, his situation has a negative effect on him. It is sad and bad, because they do not

have a proper place to live, he has not been able to study, and his parents do not pay

attention to him because they are also busy looking for food, there are some things he

should have learned inside their house not the people he meets on the streets like

begging and trading or doing some bad stuff because of lack of guidance and love.

Gilbert did not experience his rights as a child because of the difficulty of his family's life.

Instead of going to school, Gilbert ventures to earn money and food by helping his

parents scrapping garbage and trading. Gilbert lost the right to have a good life and a

proper home.

His parents should give Gilbert a good place to live and study so that the child can

have knowledge and can help them get out of the life they lived in. His parents can also

look for a stable job so that their income will be enough and give Gilbert a proper home.

In the situation of their living, Gilbert can learn to do bad things because of lack of

guidance and care of his parents. Gilbert may also not be raised properly by his parents

because of his environment he may adopt the habits of other people he meets on the

street.

COLLEGE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION

Gilbert's health may also be affected because of the area where he grew up where

there is not enough shelter when there is a typhoon and there is no proper toilet. in this

situation, it is possible that even their search for life will be affected due to the lack of

various needs such as food, clothing and shelter that they should provide for their child.

V. METHOD

In this case study we used interview and observation to gather the information and data

that we want and need to know and understand the situation of a child who was

deprived of a beautiful and comfortable life. As we gathered information through the

Interview, we realized that Gilbert's situation was very difficult and sad. We also

observed his lack of care, love and guidance while we were interviewing him. By using

the method of interview and observation in this case study, we gathered the necessary

information and details so that we can better understand the life that Gilbert has as a

juvenile. In the interview and observation that we gathered around them we saw that not

all young people have the same life and get all their wishes just like Gilbert who needs

to help his parents trade in order to have money to buy food.

VI. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

A. ANALYSIS.

In Gilbert's situation, the problem we see is the lack of his needs such as a proper

home, education and food. in this situation, these shortcomings can affect his life as if

he does not study, he may be rejected by other people because he does not have

enough knowledge. He’s living the life he doesn’t deserve specially at a very young age.

Gilbert is 7 years old, he has no proper place to live, he has not been educated because

he has no daily income because his father and mother only trade. At a very young age,

he immediately became aware of the poverty because he was only begging for food, he

also did not memorize his name and he did not know how old he was because his

parents did not focus on him because he was also busy fighting for his everyday life.

To those juvenile like Gilbert, they should be given a safe and proper place to live. His

parents should also be given a proper job so that Gilbert can study. If they don't want to,

they can also ask for help from the DSWD so that Gilbert can study and stop street

begging.

B. FINDINGS

To provide a solution to a specific problem, our government needs to do activities for

young people like Gilbert on how to help him in his studies such as community

programs, rehabilitation programs for young people and parents like Gilbert. It is also

possible for them to approach the private organization so that they can be helped in

their needs and their parents can give them a job to provide enough needs for their child

like Gilbert.

VII. RECOMMENDATION

Upon observing Gilbert’s situation, we suddenly realized that in order to prevent this

from happening to young people, our government should focus more on expanding

programs to help street children and those left by their parents on the street. The

government should create a program for juveniles like gilbert to help not only with their

daily needs but also to give them knowledge on how to handle life because at their

young age they still have a lot to learn that can be used them until they become family

members. Feeding programs for the street children,

seminar for their parents, providing scholarship and a

temporary shelter for the homeless.

Another recommendation in general, when various activities will be carried out in the

barangays for the youth such as sports and programs that the officers will organize,

association of the youth will be strengthened and it will not lead to criminality.
