    Maltreatment by Connection (sunaphe): A faster moving planet applies to a square or opposition with a
    slower moving malefic planet (Mars or Saturn) within 3 degrees and for the Moon within 13 degrees

    Maltreatment by Adherence (kolleis): A faster moving planet applies to a conjunction with a slower
    moving malefic planet (Mars or Saturn) within 3 degrees and for the Moon within 13 degrees

    Maltreatment by Enclosure: Mars and Saturn each cast a ray onto the degrees on either side of a
    planet and enclose it, without another planet casting and interposing a ray onto the intervening degrees
    on either side of a planet, and there by breaking the enclosure

    Maltreatment by Overcoming: A malefic planet (Mars or Saturn) in a superior square can maltreat a
    planet in inferior position if that malefic is located in a bad house (12,6,8,2,3)

    Maltreatment by Striking with a Ray: A malefic planet (Mars or Saturn) in inferior position can maltreat
    a planet in superior position by hurling a backward ray that strikes the planet within 3 degree on either
    side of it.

    Maltreatment by Opposition: A malefic planet, Mars or Saturn, located in a bad house (12,6,8,2,3)
    witnesses another planet by whole sign opposition

    Maltreatment by Badly Placed Domicile Lord: A planet in the domicile of a malefic (Aries, Scorpio,
    Capricorn, Aquarius) whose lord Mars or Saturn is itself in a bad house (12,6,8,2,3).

    Maltreatment by House Placement: A planet is maltreated if it is located in the 6th or 12th houses

    Conditions of Bonification are generally the same as those for maltreatment, except the operative
    planets are the benefics Venus and Jupiter.
