1.GOOD FRIDAY IN BOLIVIA.

Good Friday remembers the agony and crucifixion of Jesusthe community


members host processions through the streets walking to churches. The tradition in
Bolivia is to visit at least six Catholic churches that night. On the way, people eat
typical desserts such as arroz con leche

From Friday to Sunday Catholics enter a season of penance and fasting where
they avoid red meat. In Bolivia, the tradition is to cook 12 dishes during those three
days, to share with family and friends. Those 12 dishes are:

2.GOOD FRIDAY IN SPAIN.

Locally known as (Holy Friday), Easter is the most important celebration in Spain
and stands out for its epic brotherhoods’ processions and unique, age-old
traditions specific to each region.

On the dawn of Good Friday, people gather in front of the Seville Cathedral to
commemorate the trial and all the events that have led to the crucifixion and death
of Jesus Christ.

3.GOOD FRIDAY IN ITALIAN.

On good Friday, the pope celebrates the via Crucis near the coliseum. A huge
cross with burning torches lights up the sky while the seasons are described in
several languages, and the pope gives a blessing at the end.

The egg is an important element in the Italian Easter as it represents the beginning

of life.
4.GOOD FRIDAY IN ISRAEL.

It is one of the most representative commemorations and profound to christianity.

It is the sixth Day of holy weekand the crucifixion and death of jesus of nazaret is
remenbered.

On good Friday the procession begins along via dolorosos and during the

afternoon other processions take place at the sepulcher jump.

Before going out they prepare and eat fisgón meatballs, enchipotlados Shirmp and
bread without Yeast.

5.¿ WHAT IS EASTER WEEK LIKE IN COLOMBIA…?

Holy Week in Colombia is an opportunity to live spirituality in the midst of various


religious rituals that seek to commemorate the life, passion and death of Jesus
Christ.

During this period, believers carry out various religious, cultural and entertainment
activities. Some of the most notable events include religious parades, fasting and
prayer ceremonies, organizations to praise Jesus, celebration of the Eucharist and
procession

Traditions of Holy Week in Colombia

Palm Sunday procession, this parade commemorates the entry of Jesus into
Jerusalem where he was received with palm branches to praise him.

Good Friday: this day commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus, which is why
processions such as the Via Crucis are held, where the path that the son of God
passed on his way to his death is recreated.

Where to see the Holy Week celebrations in Colombia

In the capital of Bogotá, all the performances and processions are held on the
sacred mountain Monserrate. However, the most impressive events take place in
Popayan and Mompox, known to be religious centers of Colombia

The Easter Popayan celebrations are included in the UNESCO world heritage list.
Thousands of people participate in the easter processions and in the acclaimed
Festival of Sacred Music. Many choirs and orchestras come from different
countries to participate in this event and perform at the Guillermo Valencia theater.
Popayan is located in the southwest of the country and is recognized as one of the
most architecturally significant cities in Colombia, despite the consequences of the
1983 earthquake. It is called Ciudad Blanca due to the higher concentration of
churches. Church steeples form the city’s skyline, and there seems to be a church
around almost every corner.

Mompox

In Mompox, women participate in Easter processions wearing their best clothes


and the most expensive jewelry, showing their mourning for Jesus Christ. In the
Silvia region, indigenous Colombian’s dress in their traditional clothing and cook
Easter food

Zipaquirá

It is no secret to anyone that during Holy Week, Zipaquirá á (Cundinamarca), is an


important religious tourist destination of great importance nationally and
internationally. This salt-producing municipality has a significant tradition and
devotion that goes back a long time and which in turn reflects its architecture,
festivities and customs.

One of the main tourist attractions in Zipaquirá is the Salt Cathedral, an


underground temple built and carved between walls of salt; It is also one of the
most visited places in Colombia. During Holy Week, this place, like many churches
around it, become the scene of various religious activities such as processions,
Eucharist and vigils.

In this article, we will explore some of the activities that make the ‘Salt Capital of
Colombia’ a must-see destination on Good Friday. One of the most outstanding
events is the Good Friday procession. This event takes place in the historic center
of Zipaquirá and has the participation of thousands of faithful Catholics. During the
procession, you can see various religious images that represent the most important
moments of the Passion of Christ.
