Architectural Specifications APPENDIX_1

Fully Recessed Mullions: Where indicated, provide mullions fully recessed behind louver blades. Where length of
louver exceeds fabrication and handling limitations, fabricate with close-fitting blade splices designed to permit
expansion and contraction.

Exterior Corners: Prefabricated corner units with mitered blades with concealed close-fitting splices and with fully
recessed mullions at corners.

Where indicated for recessed louvers, provide extended sill, head and jamb trims as necessary

Join frame members to each other and to fixed louver blades with fillet welds, threaded fasteners, or both, as
standard with louver manufacturer, concealed from view, unless otherwise indicated or size of louver assembly
makes bolted connections between frame members necessary.

Fasteners and Accessories

Provide stainless steel screws and fasteners for steel louvers. Provide other accessories as required for complete
and proper installation.
Finishes
Galvanized Steel Louvers shall have phosphate treated and shop primed finish. For top coat to match the color
of the walls.

15.3. Execution
Examination
Examine substrates and openings, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation
tolerances and other conditions affecting performance.

Alert of any discrepancies, prior to commencing the Work of this section.

Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

Preparation
Coordinate setting drawings, diagrams, templates, instructions, and directions for installation of anchorages that
are to be embedded in concrete or masonry construction. Coordinate delivery of such items to Project site.

Clean and strip primed steel items to bare metal where site welding is required.

Installation
Locate and place louvers and vents level, plumb, and at indicated alignment with adjacent work.

Use concealed anchorages where possible. Provide brass or lead washers fitted to screws where required to
protect metal surfaces and to make a weathertight connection.

Form closely fitted joints with exposed connections accurately located and secured.

Provide perimeter reveals and openings of uniform width for sealants and joint fillers, as required.

Repair finishes damaged by cutting, welding, soldering, and grinding. Restore finishes so no evidence remains
of corrective work. Return items that cannot be refinished in the field to the factory, make required alterations,
and refinish entire unit or provide new units.

Protect unpainted galvanised and nonferrous-metal surfaces that will be in contact with concrete, masonry or
dissimilar metals from corrosion and galvanic action by applying a heavy coating of bituminous paint or by
separating surfaces with waterproof gaskets or nonmetallic flashing.

Adjusting and Cleaning
Clean exposed surfaces of louvers and vents that are not protected by temporary covering, to remove fingerprints
and soil during construction period. Do not let soil accumulate until final cleaning.

Before final inspection, clean exposed surfaces with water and a mild soap or detergent not harmful to finishes.
Thoroughly rinse surfaces and dry.

Restore louvers and vents damaged during installation and construction so no evidence remains of corrective
work. If results of restoration are unsuccessful, remove damaged units and replace with new units.

Touch up minor abrasions in finishes with air-dried coating that matches color and gloss of, and is compatible
with, factory-applied finish coating.

1.5. Maintenance Manuals

After the substantial completion of the works, maintenance manuals for all finishing materials, station furniture,
internal and external glazing, roof-lights and roof and louvred cleaning and maintenance systems shall be
submitted. The manuals shall include all the information and records necessary for the maintenance of the station.

1.6. Fire Resistance and Protection

Reference shall be made to the Fire Code of the Philippines and NFPA 101 and 130 for the construction of the
station buildings.

1.7. Electric Isolation

Different metals, which are in direct contact and at risk of electrolytic corrosion, shall be isolated from one another
to prevent electric connectivity between the metals.
1. Protection must be provided against touch voltage and station earthing must be provided where necessary.

1.8. Water Penetration Resistance

Station and other building envelopes, including all joints between them and other elements of work, shall
effectively prevent leakage of water into the interior of the building from the outer face of the assembly under the
action of wind pressure kinetic energy, gravity, surface tension, or capillary action. This shall be with any
combination of wind and precipitation likely to be experienced. It shall also prevent water entering into those parts
of the cladding that would be adversely affected by the presence of water.

All joints within the Works shall maintain their water tightness under the loads and movements specified herein.

1.9. Accommodation of Building Movement

All building components shall accommodate the movements as specified without any reduction in the
performance below the minimum levels specified herein.

Allowance shall be made for both horizontal and vertical deflection of the structure due to differential settlement,
wind effects, deflection of beams, and the long-term effects of concrete creep. The allowance shall be additional
to that for concrete tolerance, refer to Structural Engineers specifications. The system shall be designed to
accommodate the worst possible combination of effects to prevent internal stress, failure, deterioration or failure
of weather seals as specified herein.

1.10. Movement and Deflection

All building components shall accommodate the movements noted below without any reduction in the
performance below the minimum levels required herein.

1. Deflections due to design dead loads and live loads.

2. Deflections under repeated cycles of the design wind loads.

Changes in dimension and shape arising from building movements, including settlement, shrinkage, elastic
shortening, floor beam deflections, creep, wind sway, twisting and racking and thermal and moisture movement.

Due to movement of any joint in the supporting structure or building frame whether that joint is intended to permit
movement or not.
