 Identify the form of Pre-colonial Philippine Literature and the genres of viewing it presents.

It is a folktales that explains how Mount Mayon, an active volcano was form and named.

 Who are the characters and what are their role in the story?

Characters:

Daragang Magayon - the beautiful princess who fell inlove with Handiong.
Handiong - a prince from another tribe which was an enemy of the tribe of Daragang Magayon.

 What is the story all about? (Short summary)

The story was all about the love of Daragang Magayon to Hadiong which was not possible
because they belong to different tribes. When their families found out about their secret
relationship it ended up into a war which leads to Hadiong death. Daragang Magayong got sick
and died after the death of Hadiong. After a month where her family buried her there was
something growing. After a few hundreds of years it became a beautiful volcano now called
“Mayon”.

 What is the lesson or the main idea of the story?

The moral lesson that can be captured from the story is to follow rules, respect authorities and
respect others’ feelings.

 Since the story features one of the main attractions of our country, how will you promote it to
others? Provide a sample of it.

I can promote it through social media by featuring the beautiful places of Bicol where you can
found the Mayon volcano. Of all the volcanoes in the Philippines, Mayon Volcano is the most
iconic because of its perfect cone shape.
