History of Naimisaranya
 GLORY OF NAIMISARANYA
naimiṣe ’nimiṣa-kṣetre
ṛṣayaḥ śaunakādayaḥ
satraṁ svargāya lokāya
sahasra-samam āsata

Once, in a holy place in the forest of Naimiṣāraṇya, great

sages headed by the sage Śaunaka assembled to perform
a great thousand-year sacrifice for the satisfaction of the
Lord and His devotees. SB

 Importance of Naimisaranya
• At Naimisaranya, great sages headed by the sage Saunaka
assembled to perform a great thousand -year sacrifice.
• This sacrifice was meant for the welfare for the entire humanity, to
eradicate the ill effects of kali yuga
• The sages were not performing sacrifice to attain heavenly planets.
• They were engaged in performing sacrifices to glorify the Supreme
Lord who is glorified even in the heavenly planets.
• Their desire was to attain the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord Krishna.
 Assemblage at Naimisaranya Begins

One day, after finishing their morning

duties by burning a sacrificial fire the
sages offered an elevated seat of
respect called the Vyasasana to Suta
Goswami who arrived there. Suta
Goswami is a very learned person in
all Vedic literatures. The sages
requested him to sit on the
Vyasasana. They wanted to hear
Srimad Bhagavatam from Suta
Gosvami.

unto you because they have seen the truth.BG 4.34

reception from the right sources.
Therefore, these sages addressed
the speaker Sūta Gosvāmī with
great respect.

Hearing from the text of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is considered the

most important process of hearing. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is full of
transcendental chanting of the holy name, and therefore the
chanting and hearing of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam are
transcendentally full of mellows.
