WEEK 7

PERFORMANCE TASK
Directions: Look for a problem situation in your area and use only three sample size to
illustrate and define sampling distribution of the sample mean using Central Limit Theorem.
Make an artwork for its histogram.

Problem: A population of non-water consumer from the water service of barangay Cambajao
consists of 3, 8, 4 and 6 in barangay Alibagon. With a sample size of 1,2 and 3. Illustrate and
define the sampling distribution of the sample means using Central Limit Theorem.

PERFORMANCE TASK
Directions: Perform by answering the worksheet provided with problem set to solve probability
distribution of the sample means.
WORKSHEET IN STATISTICS & PROBABILITY
Topic: Solving Problems Involving Sampling Distribution of the Sample Means

Grade/Section: 11 Osteocytes Parents/Guardian Signature: Date:

Problem 1
The lengths of pregnancies are normally distributed with a mean of 260 days and a standard
deviation of 12 days. If 30 women are randomly selected, find the probability that their lengths
of pregnancy have a mean that is less than 255 days.

Steps Solution
1. Identify the given information. µ=260 day s σ =12 days
X =255 day s n=30 days
2. Identify what is being asked. P( X)<255 ¿
3. Identify the formula. X −µ

4. Solve the problem. X −µ

z=−2.28

z=−2.2 8

From the z-table the area between –

2.28 and 0 is 0.4887.

Since the desired area is in the left

tail, subtract 0.4887 from 0.5000, therefore
P( X)<255 ¿=P(2←2.28)
¿ 0.5000−0.4887
¿ 0.0113∨01.13 %
5. State your final answer. -0.0113 is the probability of their
length of pregnancy as a mean that is less
than 255 days.

Problem 2
The weights of male students are normally distributed with a mean of 150 pounds and a
standard deviation of 25 pounds What is the probability that 25 randomly selected male
students will have a mean weight of more than 155 pounds?

Steps Solution
1. Identify the given information. µ=180 σ =25
X =155 n=25
2. Identify what is being asked. P( X)<1 55 ¿
3. Identify the formula to be used. X −µ

z=1
From the z-table the area between 1
and 0 is 0.3413.

Since the desired area is in the left

tail, subtract 0.3413 from 0.5000, therefore
P( X)<155 ¿=P(2<1)
¿ 0.5000−0.3413
¿ 0. 1587∨15.87 %
5. State your final answer. The mean of the weight of more than
155 pounds is 0.1587 from the 25 randomly
selected male students.
