Activity: NEWS AND INFORMATION AND APPLIED SOCIAL SCIENCE

News and information are very important in society, by reporting news and information to the
citizens will big help in a particular society. Todays, by watching TV, reading the article, and
listening, people gathered news and information through a different type of online or offline
platform. The functions of news and information in a particular society are to give true
information and news to the people. News and information help informing people what’s
happening in their surroundings. It also helps to educate the people, guiding the audience,
spreading awareness, interpreting facts and news, source and entertainment, forming opinions,
and advertising. These are some functions of news and information.
By actually accessing a full variety of the means for them to figure it out for themselves and
discover their view of the facts. We now live in a digitally connected world that aspires to
realize the dream of democratizing thinking, ideas, and knowledge flows. It has been noted that
the concentration of web audiences has equaled, and in many cases exceeded, that of most
mass media. This is also aided by the invention of cell phones, which connect any mobile phone
owner to the Internet instantly. We now get our news from the internet rather than the radio,
television, or newspapers. In ways that no other technology has ever done, a social network
"hashtag" will alert us to critical problems and build a buzz about them, inspiring people who
are otherwise unknown or powerless. Social media has the potential to make content more
available and to drive the democratization of information beyond the agenda-setting and
relative ownership of news and information held by major media outlets. We can measure this
by looking at how people get their news, how content flows through social networking
networks in a specific and empirical way, and how human behavior is evolving as a result of
social media. These social media forces have often compelled major news organizations to
integrate social media into their web versions to reach out to new markets, boost online traffic,
more efficiently source content, and keep on top of technology changes to avoid being
obsolete. Many global news organizations have already opened their websites and made it
possible for people to "post," "like," or "recommend" content on social media platforms. There
is currently no definitive proof that goes beyond stating that digital networks do indeed
increase the pace and reach of knowledge. We don't have enough data to say if the offline and
online environments have drastically different effects on behavior.

In this case, applied social research will offer support and inspiration. Underserved groups are
empowered to use transparent and free media outlets to express themselves and consume
relevant content. Increased insecurity may also be discussed, such as being a target of the
online sex industry or extortion, as well as learning self-defense against a variety of personal
attacks. As a result, participatory media emerges, resulting in the overall liberation of all people.
Participatory media and peer-to-peer news cascading are becoming increasingly common in
news production, and their capacity to exchange content is likely to grow in the future. We are
entering an age where the audience employs self-censorship and plays a bigger role in
engaging, remixing, tweeting, and eventually filtering what is relevant.
