NEUTRALIZER DUCTING SPECIFICATION
A vent hood and chimney must be installed 2” (50mm) above the INS Neutralizer. The vent
hood must be 2” (50mm) larger than the top of the neutralizer on all sides, see the chart below
for vent hood sizing.
Neutralizer Vent Hood
Burner Size Dimensions
L (inch) L (mm) W (inch) W (mm)
INS15 18.6 472 18.7 475
INS30 20.4 518 20.6 522
INS50 22.4 568 22.5 572
INS75 22.5 572 26.8 682
The weight of the chimney and vent hood is not to be supported by the neutralizer. At no time
should the chimney run horizontally; if bends are required reduce losses by using 30 degree
elbows.
*For proper operation of the neutralizer please avoid negative plant pressure

4 IN EXHAUST CONFIGURATION
IN Neutralizers have a flange where the chimney is to be attached. The ducting and flange size
change with the unit size, please see the table below for more details.

NEUTRALIZER DUCTING SPECIFICATION
Temperature of the effluent gas close to the neutralizers can be between 500 – 600°C (932-
1112°F) at max ammonia flow. However, because of additional stack cooling air entering the
stack at connection point will keep the stack temperature lower.
Due to the high temperature, the ducting for the IN-Neutralizer should be double walled
stainless steel for the first 10 feet (3m), with signal walled sufficient for the rest. A minimum
wall thickness of 16 gauge (1.5mm) is recommended. Please refer to local code for any further
requirements.
It is strongly recommended that a removeable 3 feet (1m) section be included in the chimney.
This will make lifting the neutralizer much easier if required for maintenance.
The weight of the chimney is not to be supported by the neutralizer. At no time should the
chimney run horizontally; if bends are required reduce losses by using 30 degree elbows.
Chimney should have water guard (conical cap).
*For proper operation of the neutralizer please avoid negative plant pressure.

NEUTRALIZER DUCTING SPECIFICATION
5 NEGATIVE PRESSURE
Negative pressure occurs when there is a significant difference in air pressure between the
interior and exterior of the building.
In extreme cases this can result in the flame being pushed back through the neutralizer,
damaging equipment.
In the event that your facility experiences negative pressure; please consult your local experts
for recommendations.
Draft Dampers may be recommended on the exterior of the building to aid in pressure
balancing. In addition to these recommendations a draft hood should be installed downstream
from the equipment followed by an extraction fan mounted as close to the outlet as possible.
The extraction fan capacity should be capable of handling the air draw requirements listed in
tables 1 and 3 above as well as being able to provide a minimum of 3” SP (5.6mm HG). It is
advisable that a ducting specialist examine the extent of negative pressure you are
experiencing. In some cases a larger extraction fan may be needed.
