A Detailed Lesson Plan
In Science 7

I. Subject Matter: Layers of Atmosphere

II. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, with the help of instructional materials,
90% of the students will be able to:
A. identify the major layer of atmosphere,
B. value the importance of atmosphere; and
C. create your own layer of the atmosphere model.
III. Instructional Materials: cartolina, chalk
IV. Procedure

Teacher Activity Student Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of
attendance and
evidence of classroom
management

B. Introduction
Classroom Rules
I. Motivation

Today let’s have an activity

called “Where do I Belong”, but in
this activity I only need 5 volunteers.

All you have to do is to place

the names on its exact location.

II. Lesson Proper

Troposphere, Stratosphere,
Mesosphere, Thermosphere, and
Exosphere are what we all called the
layer of the atmosphere.
But before we proceed. What is an
Atmosphere?

Give me a number

1,2,3 Nikki!

Yes correct! 3 Ma’am

Atmosphere is the whole mass Nikki answer

of air that surrounds the earth. (The
teacher explain further)

And our Atmosphere is divided

into 5 layers. Those are the
Troposphere, Stratosphere,
Mesosphere, Thermosphere, and
Exosphere.

So, the first layer of the

atmosphere is Troposphere.

Troposphere is the layer

closest to Earth’s surface. And it
contain most of the air and water
vapor (is water that is in the form of
a vapor, or gas). Also in the
Troposphere that we can find
greenhouse effect (it traps the sun’s
heat close to our planet). To keep
our planet nice and warm

What will happen class! If

water vapor and greenhouse effect
(heat) move around the earth. (The
teacher explain more)

What do you think Class?

Give me a number

1,2,3,4,5 May!

Yes correct!
The Weather occur. That’s why
most of the weather happen at the
May answer
Troposphere. Class!

Okay, now let’s move on to our

second layer of the atmosphere.
Which is the Stratosphere.

Stratosphere is the layer of air

that extends to about 50 km from
Earth’s surface. It is in the
stratosphere that we find the Ozone
layer (absorb the sun’s harmful
radiation that would otherwise be
dangerous to all living things). (The
teacher explain more)

Question Class!

The 3rd layer of the

atmosphere is Mesosphere.

This layer is the coldest region

in our atmosphere and the layer
between 50 km and 80 km above
earth’s surface. This is where most
meteors burn up upon entry. (The None Ma’am
teacher explain more)

Are we clear class?

Okay the second to the last

layer of the atmosphere.

Is the Thermosphere it is
between the 80 km and 110 km
above earth. Space shuttles fly in
this area and it is also where the
Auroras are found. And this layer is
one of the hottest layer of the Yes Ma’am
atmosphere (4,500 degree
Fahrenheit). (The teacher explain
more)

Next is the upper limit of our

atmosphere is the Exosphere.

This layer of the atmosphere

merges into space. Satellite are
stationed in this area, 500 km to
1000 km from earth. Just like
Thermosphere, Exosphere can get
pretty hot but it varies greatly
between night and day. If night it will
get very cold, day can be thousand
degree fahrenheit. (The teacher
explain more)

Questions about
Thermosphere and Exosphere?

III. Generalization

Let’s have a Recap Class!

What are the 5 layers of the
atmosphere?

Give me a number

1,2,3,4,5 Sheen!

IV. Application None so far.

By pair:
Create your own Layers of
the Atmosphere Model in a creative
way.

Use recycle materials 5 Ma’am

Then have a brief discussion Sheen answer

about it.

V. Valuing
How important are the layer
of the atmosphere?

VI. Evaluation
¼ sheet of paper
1. What is the atmosphere?
2. What layer of the atmosphere
is heated by the sun hitting
the ozone layer?
3. What layer of earth’s
atmosphere is where most
meteor burn up upon entry?
4. What is the ozone layer?
5. What layer of earth’s
atmosphere is the layer next
to the earth?
6 -10. How important are the
layer of the atmosphere?

V. Assignment

Read or study in advance the “Greenhouse Effect” in your book pp. 314
