Today we will be presenting an experiment on the Conduction of thermal energy on

solids. But first, we must understand what conductivity is. Conductivity is the
transfer of thermal energy via the vibration of electrons in solids. When we expose
a solid to heat, the electrons start to vibrate and give off heat to neighboring
electrons. In this way the heat energy is spread throughout the solid.

Sarjil: Different types of solids have different conductivities. For instance,

a metal, such as steel is a good conductor of heat whereas a different object such
as Styrofoam is a poor conductor of heat. This means that the rate at which heat
spreads throughout the solid depends on the solid’s conductivity. Here, Fatin and
Waziullah will demonstrate the process of conductivity using a good and a bad
conductor of heat.
