LEARNING PLAN
SUBJECT : Science GRADE LEVEL: 7
TOPIC: ELEMENTS (metal and nonmetal) QUARTER:
WEEK: 3 LESSON NO. 3
NAME OF SUBJECT TEACHER: Janice B. Magsino
OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, 80% of the students should be able to:
1. 1. Identify metal and nonmetal element
2. 2. Describe some properties of metals and nonmetals
3. 3. Discuss the uses of metal and nonmetals in our daily lives
PERFORMANCE The learners should be able to investigate the properties of mixtures of
STANDARDS varying concentrations using available materials in the community for
specific purposes.
Clarean Values Smartness, fairness and honesty
Materials Materials: learning plan, powerpoint, board and chalk, tv, laptop,
Reference: SCIENCE LINKS 7, Aquino M.D et al pp. 79-85
Day 1-2 I PREPARATORY
The teacher will begin by displaying a periodic table or using a tv to
show it on a screen. Explain that the periodic table is a map of all known
elements. Ask students if they know what elements are and if they can
name any elements. Explain that elements are classified into two main
categories: metals and non-metals.

A.
II DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON
A. Presentation
Pose the question “ Why do you think metals are commonly used in
construction? Have students think individually or maybe discuss with a
partner and share their ideas with the class.
Elements are the simplest form of substances. This means that whatever
you do with an element, it remains to be the same element. Its physical
state may change but the identity of the element will not.
Metals refers to the natural elements that are hard, shiny, opaque and
dense.
Non-metals implies those chemical substances that are soft, non-shiny,
transparent and brittle.
B. Lesson Proper
The teacher will present a slideshow explaining the properties and
characteristics of metal and non-metal elements. Use visuals and
examples to enhance understanding.

TABLE 2. 3 COMPARISON OF METALS AND NON METALS

PROPERTY METALS NON - METALS
Appearance Shiny and lustrous dull
State at room temp Solid ( except for Hg Solid, liquid, gas
usually high)
Melting/ boiling points Usually high Often low
Electrical conductivity Conduct electricity Do not conduct
electricity
Strength Generally strong Often weak
Density High Low
malleability malleable brittle
Ductility ductile brittle

The teacher will also ask students to design and create a poster or
infographic showcasing the different uses of metals and non-metals in
everyday life. They should include examples and explanations for each
use.

C. Generalization/Value integration
The teacher will let students create concept maps to show the relationship
between metals and non-metals. Encourage them to include examples and
key terms.

D. Agreement/Assignment
Write a short paragraph explaining why metals are commonly used in
electrical wiring and why non-metals are used as insulators. Include
examples to support your explanation.

Day 3 Answer the questions in your workbook in Lesson 3.

(Things to Do)
Day 4 The teacher will continue the discussion and check the things to do of the
Discussion of students.

Day 5 Create a short quiz that assesses students' understanding of the properties
Quiz and characteristics of metals and non-metals.
