CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
This study aims to know the effects of the shortage of equipment in learning
ICT to the ICT Students of MCA Montessori School.
1.3 HYPOTHESIS
There is a significant relationship between the challenges to the respondents in
terms of academic performance, low grades, outdated devices, among the effects of
lack of ICT equipment in terms of exam, assignments, activities, grading, and level of
their knowledge in ICT.
1.5 OBJECTIVE
1. The purpose of this study was to learn about the effects of a lack of equipment on
ICT students at MCA Montessori School.
2. Our study aims to know the level of knowledge of an ICT student.
3. The purpose of our study is to see if lack of equipment does really affect the level
of knowledge of an ICT student.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will be undertaken to find out the effects of shortage of equipment
in ICT Students of MCA Montessori School.
Students
The direct respondents of this study are the students of MCA Montessori
school. The study will help the students to adjust and acknowledge more about the
effects and thrive for improvement.
Teachers
The findings of this study reveal that teachers had a strong desire to integrate
ICT into the teaching-learning process even though with difficulties.
Future Researchers
The study helped to identify the current needs and challenges faced by
professionals and students when interacting with ICT.
1.8 Theoretical Background
As time goes by, learning becomes easier and faster by using new methods and
different devices. With the help of new innovative technology students can now learn
easier and quicker.
Educational technology is the practice to facilitate learning and to bring more
effectiveness in learning and teaching. There are three (3) major educational theories
as stated by David (2017), the behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism that are
well-recognized and widely implemented to the growth and utilization of educational
technology.
According to Frederic Skinner (1990) that awards and punishment can alter
students' learning performance. Researchers confirmed that Behaviorism is key for
educators as well as its effectiveness implemented in programmatic instructions and
strongly promoted and applied in computing-assisted-instruction and the development
of educational technology.
Piaget et al. (1930) represent the Cognitive theory. Cognitive learning theory
explains how external and internal factors influence students' mental processes to
boost learning. In education, it is to develop students' abilities of creative thinking,
analyzing, memory, and problem-solving through computer-assisted instructions. It
studies the human brain's thinking process. Cognitivists think that humans possess
natural modes of receiving, utilizing and processing information at different cognitive
development stages. Support the study of people's cognitive development procedures
and style and design different educational programs based on students cognitive
development needs at different development stages.
Constructivism theory is a theory that says students construct knowledge rather
than just take in information. The core of this theory is discovery learning. Dewey
(1952) is a well known educational psychologist who believes that practicing is a
foundation of learning and without learning practice students would get lost. He also
stressed that students construct their knowledge in practice, and instructional design
should respect students' psychological development needs. Vygotsky, a former Soviet
psychologist proposed a social constructivist theory that highlights one's social and
cultural backgrounds to find out one's behavior. He also believes that human growth is
a product of culture. The influence of constructivist theory on the development and
implementation of technology is the learner's open curiosity about something new,
mainly reflected in introducing educational games, multimedia development and
dynamic online interactions.
