CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

At school or at home, there is a range of Economic Status. We feel derived

from a need of perfection, worry about grades, parents pressure, competition, of a

though class load. Economic Status has been reported to be the most common

source of stress for students. Such as stress came from too much homeworks, and

lack of interest in a particular subject. Stress/pressure from high expectation of

teachers, parents and self is usually an agony for students studying in school.

Generally parents are very concerned about their children academic

significant role in cognitive, social, and emotional development of their children

Parents have important positive or negative influence in the academic aspirations

and achievement of children.

Parents usually set high goals for their children and expect them to come

up to their expectations. When their children are unable to come up to their standards

they are accused of being lazy or dull which induces a sense of inferiority among

adolescents and sometimes leads to drastic outpouring by them in the form of mental

disorders, depression, stress, and even suicides.

Positive students behavior are most effectively develop and supported

through relationship-based on whole school and classroom practices and clearly

communicated behavioral expectations.

Statement of the Problem

The research study the aims of the economic status and academic

achievement of Senior High School students, specifically sought the answers to the

following questions.

1.To what extent is the economic status in terms of:

1.1 parents expectations

1.2 income and;

1.3 recreational activities?

2.To what extent is the academic achievement such as:

2.1 honor received

2.2 scores in the test; and

2.3 students leader?

3.Is there a significant relationship between economic status and

academic achievement?

Significance of the Study

The result of this study are deemed important, for it will provide information

to the school administrator and faculty of the school to design new teaching

strategies.

Also, to the teachers, it serves as an awareness on the learning

performance of the students.

This will also provide insights to the parents of those both unmotivated and

motivated students so that they’ll know if there’s something bothering their children
and for them to know and follow up this kind of attitude their children have could affect

their economic status.

This is also substantial to the particular students that needed insights why

are they unmotivated and not interested in engaging in any class discussion or to

active students for them to know more why they found the academic achievement

fun and interesting, that makes them motivated and engaged.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This study covers only the topic on economic status which includes of

parents expectations, income, and recreational activities. It also involves the topic

on academic achievement which consist of honor received, school in the test, and

students leaders.

This study is limited to the grade 11 Senior High School students of Notre

Dame Siena College of Tacurong School Year 2020-2021.
