NO. VOLT He STOREBRO GK-195. PREFACE This handbook is intended as a guide for the installation, opera~ fion and maintenance of the STOREBRO lathe, model GK 195. ” We should appreciate if you would give this handbook to the person in charge of the machine Every machine has been thoroughly tested and indicated before leaving the factory. In order not to alter its precision, special care must be teken during the installation and operation of the machine. Therefore, we recommend that you follow closely the instruc- tions contained in this handbook in order to ensure the highest precision and longest life of the machine STOREBRO BRUKS AKTIEBOLAG Contents Pose A. Installation The lathe must be placed on a suitable foundation, prepared in good time in order to prevent further setting, once the machine is inzplace. The four holes for the foundation screws must be large. When the machine Is in place, the foun- dation screws are cast by filling the holes with cement. Be sure that the screws are straight The machine must not be bolted, until the cement is completely dry. When hoisting the lathe by means of 2 crane or a forklift truck, a suitable wooden board and en endless rope should be used. The teil stock should be moved as far as possible away from the head stock and then clamped in that position Then the board is pushed in under the bed somewhere between the head stock and the- carriage and the endless rope should be wound in two coils round the ends of the board. After that the lathe should be hoisted only slightly to check the equilibrium. If it proves necessary to balance the machine before the final lifting, this can be done by moving the carriage either to the right or to the left. Levelling: The machine is levelled by meens of set screws placed inside the cabinet base. Place a thick piece of steel plate under each set screw casting it into place and proceed with the coarse adjustment. For longitudinal es well as cross levelling the highest permissible tolerance is = 0,02 mm/1000 mm. For the longitudinal levelling you place a precision water level direct on the rear sliding surface of the bed moving the level along the bed. The cross levell- ing is adjusted by placing the level on @ ruler across the carriage. The cerriage is then moved longitudinally away from the head stock towards the tail stock, checking the water level at equal intervals. Deviations are corrected by means of the set screws. After the adjustments have been made, recheck the levelling by moving the carriage from the right to the left. This procedure must be repeated until the reading of the water level does not deviate more than the tolerance indicated above, when all the foundation screws are tightened. After the levelling the empty space between the lathe and the floor is filled with concrete (1/3 cement and 2/3 sand, the consistency must be loose enough to permit the mixture to run under the machine forming a homogeneous sole). When the concrete has dried completely, the lathe is ready for use. Bp | clo 1000 | 2200 | 1903 | 1508 1500 | 2700 | 2403 | 2008 A C. Lubrication Before putting the machine into operation, the rust preventive coating on the sliding surfaces must be completely removed. After this has been done, the machine must be lubricated in accordance with the lubrication chart, paying attention to the following: HEADSTOCK AND FEED GEAR BOX A suitable machine oil should be poured through the filling hole in the cover, \.e. Shell Turbo Oil 33, Caltex Regal Oil, BP Energol HP 20 or Nynés TD31X. SLIDING SURFACES OF THE BED These surfaces should be slightly oiled with a good quality machine oil. CROSS-SLIDE, TOP-SLIDE AND TAILSTOCK SCREWS In order to provent unnecessary wear of the threads, the screws should be lubri- cated at equal intervals. The cross-slide screw is brought forward for lubrication by unscrewing the cross-slide. At the same time the small cogwheel situated in front on the cross-slide screw under the protective cap should also be oiled. The top-slide has to be screwed backwards in order to lubricate the top-slide screw, which is done from below. To lubricate the tailstock the tailstock spindle must be removed, whereupon the screw can be lubricated from in front. OTHER LUBRICATING POINTS. Check with the lubrication chart. D. Controls Feed The longitudinal and cross feeds are engaged by means of the levers 25, 11 and 23 on the apron. The longitudinal hand feed is operated by means of the handwheel 26 and the manual cross feed by the hendwheel 7. Thread cutting The rotation of the lead screw is engaged by means of the lever 34 on the Norton gear box. The lead screw nut is engaged by means of the lever 12. IMPORTANT! Before the lead screw nut can be engaged the inter-locking must be eliminated by turning the lever 23 to its left-hand position. On the following pages you will find 2 series of tables for the most commonly used pitches, as well as formulas to calculate the necessary change gears for obtaining special pitches. Lever 37 should only be used when changing the motor speed (2-speed motor). Lever 22 should be used for reversing the motor. E. Maintenance and adjustment 1. Adjustment of play in the bearings of the main spindle is made by tightening the nut 124 (page 18). By turning this nut clockwise the play is reduced 2, Adjustment of the axial play of the leed screw is achieved by means of the nuts placed close to the rear bearing, using the hook spanners supplied with the machine. 3. On the carriage there are felt pads to protect the sliding ways of the bed. These pads must be cleaned at least once a month with kerosene, dried and soaked with oll F.
