At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
A. identify the transition signals used in sentences and paragraphs;
B. classify the types of transition signals used in sentences;
C. construct sentences using transition signals; and
D. share the importance of using transition signals in writing sentences and
composing paragraphs

Topic: Using Transition Signals
Subtopic: Types of Transition Signals ( Comparison/Contrast, Chronology,
Cause/Effect, Illustration/Example)
Materials: PowerPoint, Laptop
Time Frame: 50 minutes
References: English 8: Quarter 4- Module 1

LITTLE DIDDLE , TRANSITION DOODLE
GIVE THE ANSWER OF THE SPOKEN RIDDLE
Direction: The teacher will present riddles. The students are task
to guess what transition signal is described in each riddle by filling in the
missing letters given as a clue.

C. Lesson Proper
1. The teacher will introduce the topic by presenting ideas on what are transition signals
and its types.
2. The teacher will present sentences and the students are task to identify what are the
transition signals used in each sentence and its type.
3. Encourage students participation by asking them to compose a sentence under each
type of transition signals.
4. The teacher will add more information about the topic.
5. Let the students ask questions or clarifications if there are any.

D. Generalization
1. What is your take for today’s lesson?
2. Why do you think transition signals are important in writing sentences? in composing
paragraphs?
IV. APPLICATION
CHOOSE YOUR COLOR
 The teacher will present a summary of the story “ Makato and the Cowry Shell”.
 The students are task to read the lines taken from the story and identify the
transition signals used in each sentence.

V. EVALUATION
The teacher will present incomplete sentences. The students will
complete the sentences with the appropriate transition signals given in th
pool of words.

VI. AGREEMENT
Study about the other four remaining types or functions of transition
signals below. Cite at least one sample sentence for each type. Be ready to present it in
class tomorrow.
