School Meals around the world

What is a typical school lunch in your country? This week we are talking to students from the
U.S., South Korea and France.

What are meals like in your school in New York, Dave?

Well, there’s a cafeteria with a lot of different food. Some students bring sandwiches, but I prefer the cafeteria
food. I often have a burger with some French fries, or maybe a pizza. I don’t eat many vegetables. I don’t like
them.

What about salad and fruit?

There are always a few different salads because some students don’t eat meat. There’s a lot of fruit, too. I
sometimes have a banana or some melon, but I prefer cookies!

What about drinks?

Yes, there are bottles of water or juice, or you can have chocolate milk. I often drink apple juice.

You’re from Korea, Minsoo, Are your school lunches good?

Yes, they are. There’s usually some soup and some rice with fish or meat, and there are always some green
vegetables like spinach or broccoli. Then for dessert, there’s always fruit and sometimes ice cream. I often have
an apple.

What about fast food like burgers and hot dogs? Ate they popular?
No, they don’t serve any fast food at our school. People don’t eat many burgers or fries.

What do students drink? Is there any soda?

No, there isn’t any soda. We usually drink milk.

You live in France, Pierre. What are your lunches like?

Not bad! We have a big lunch. It’s traditional here because our school day is very long. There are always three
different dishes.

Do you have a lot of choice?

No, there isn’t much choice. First, there’s usually a salad. My favourite is tomato salad. Then, there’s meat or fish
with vegetables. There’s always bread, and water, of course.

What about dessert?

We can choose cheese or a dessert. I usually have fruit or yougurt.
