HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 2

COVID 19 AND ITS INFLUENCE ON EDUCATION

The pandemic and consequently worldwide lockdown have affected all major sectors adversely,
primarily the education sector which was forced to make virtual learning the norm for all age groups
across all fields almost overnight. During the initial period institutions were confused and gradually
on a trial-and-error method developed digital infrastructure and the study pattern to suit the same
Although this sudden need for online education brought out innovative and more inclusive
education methods that made taking up courses from anywhere in the world possible and more
assessable to those with disabilities in term of mobility and allowed interactions with a wider
audience the benefits remained for a certain economic group and social group that were able to
afford the appendages of online education namely smart phones, Wi-Fi, tablets, computers etc.
Unstable electricity connections, limited data, lack of resources and an inadequate study
environment; put them at an immediate disadvantage. The parents who lacked home-tutor skills
now had to take up the task suddenly.

Many like the medical profession that teach by integrating internships and practical skills were
severely affected and till date are trying to make up for the losses. The student dropout rates are
higher and ever and those that left education as a result of this pandemic may never return back to
schools thus losing out of social skills development resulting in lost opportunities for life. To
conclude the pandemic brought into focus the role of schools especially in person schooling and the
importance of supporting emotional, social and cognitive development in students from the very
beginning, it also pushed the education system and the government to become more inclusive
towards those belonging to low-income families by allotting packages and allowances to benefit
them.
