1. New Features
• Support for Two Factor Authentication. Two Factor Authentication enables a site to strengthen
access to selected doors by requiring the cardholder to approve the access request on their
mobile device, thereby assuring the access request is being made by the rightful owner of the
credential. Supported with C•CURE 9000 v2.70 SP3 and higher (future release).
• Provides the choice to enforce TLSv1.2 (stronger security) which disables TLSv1.0 and TLSv1.1.
The iSTAR Diagnostic Utility contains a new checkbox to enforce TLSv1.2. The iSTAR Edge and
iSTAR eX members must be running firmware version 6.x.x or higher.
To access the iSTAR Edge/eX Diagnostic Utility:
1. Open the iSTAR Edge/eX Diagnostic Utility. (Enter the IP address in a browser using the
format https://10.10.10.10.)
2. Under Diagnostics, click SID Diagnostic Levels.
3. Select the TLSv1.2 check box.
4. Click Submit.

2. Limitations
• All iSTAR Edge’s and iSTAR eX’s in a cluster must be at version 6.x.x and higher to communicate
within the cluster and with the host.
• Diagnostic levels (SID, Reader, and I/O) are not supported on the iSTAR Edge and iSTAR eX if
using Internet Explorer 11, unless Compatibility mode is enabled.

• iSTAR Edge/eX as members in clusters with an iSTAR Ultra as the master. To use TLS1.2 only
(stronger security) for the connection between the iSTAR Ultra master and other encrypted
iSTAR Edge’s and iSTAR eX’s, there is a new check box on the iSTAR Ultra Web General page
which takes effect after panel reboot. The iSTAR Edge/eX must first be upgraded to firmware
v6.x.x.
To access the iSTAR Ultra/Ultra SE General page with the new check box:
1. Open the iSTAR Ultra Web page of the Ultra/Ultra SE Master controller. (Enter the IP
address in a browser using the format https://10.10.10.10.)
2. Enter the username and password.
3. Click Configure.
4. Select Settings and click General.
5. Select the TLSv1.2 for Cluster Encryption (Edge/eX member must be running 6.x.x
or newer FW) check box to enable TLS1.2.

3. SPARs Fixed
417825 – Added support for Two Factor Authentication. See New Features.
417844 – Resolved a case where events activated to demuster and clear counts weren’t being cleared or
downloaded to the controller.
460540 – Bad PIN Reader Disable Status now displays properly in the Monitoring Station and in the
Journal.
541733 – Resolved a case where events were not displaying proper activate and deactivate status.
553696 – Resolved an HTTPS Web page vulnerability. See New Features “Support for TLSv1.2 (stronger
security)”.
567894 – Resolved a case where the Event Manager became unresponsive and did not retain
configuration after a power loss with no connection to the host.

4. Important Upgrade Information

CAUTION: Please read the Limitations section before upgrading the firmware.
Determining iSTAR Controller Types
There are two ways to determine the iSTAR controller type:
1. From the C•CURE 9000 Monitoring Station, select Hardware Status and then iSTAR Controllers from
the context menu to access the iSTAR Controllers Status dialog box. In the status box, scroll to the
column called Controller Type (C•CURE 9000) or Board Type (C•CURE 800/8000) to display the type
of board.
2. From the ICU, select Tools and then Controller Status from the context menu to access "Controller
Status."
3. The Board Type/Board column displays IV for iSTAR Edge and III for the iSTAR eX.
Determining the Firmware Image for the Controllers
Table 1: Determining the Correct Firmware Image for the Controller
iSTAR Type Main Firmware Image Version
iSTAR Edge 6.2.7.x.i4
iSTAR eX 6.2.7.x.i3
x is the firmware build number. Firmware build numbers can be different between two controller types.

5. Upgrading the iSTAR Firmware

The iSTAR Controller must be communicating properly for the new firmware version to install and run
properly.
1. To upgrade the iSTAR firmware, copy the firmware files:
• For C•CURE 9000:
C:\Program Files(x86)\Tyco\CrossFire\ServerComponents\istar\ICU\firmware

• C•CURE 800/8000:
%CC800ROOT%\BIN\FLASH

• For ICU, in the ICU/Firmware folder.

2. Initiate Firmware Flash from the Monitoring Station, C•CURE 9000, or the ICU following the
instructions or help released with those products.
IMPORTANT: If you are using ICU v6.6.5 or later, the ICU must be restarted anytime an iSTAR
Edge, or iSTAR eX, panel boots to the last known good boot image to be able to download a new
firmware image. The ICU must be used to download the firmware image.

For more information, refer to the online help for the C•CURE Monitoring Station or ICU. You can
access the online Help by pressing the F1 key or by choosing Help Topics from the Help menu.
