Project : THE CONSTRUCTION AND COMPLETION OF FACILITIES WORKS FOR KELANA JAYA LINE EXTENSION (PACKAGE A)

Structure : PIER TYPE B1 (P3/D2)

- DESIGN OF MINIMUM ANCHORAGE LENGTH FOR PLANTING OF PLINTH MAIN REINFORCEMENT

BASED ON BRITISH STANDARD (STRUT-TIE METHOD) Date Prepared By Revision Page No

15 July 2012 - 01 1 of 1
1.0 Background
- TRC's worker unintentionally cut plinth reinforcement bars (7T20 Bothways U- Bar) for Pier P3/D2 after hacking
2 numbers of concrete plinths (Bearing Indentification Mark No. 1002 & 1003)

- TRC proposed to plant 7T20 U-Bar Bothways with HIT-RE 500.

3T16 LINK REMEDIAL PROPOSAL

Bearing Plant 7T20 U-Bar at Both Directions with HIT-RE 500.
Embedment Length, L = 325 mm

2.0 Check Tensile Force Required for Planting of 7T20 Reinforcement Bars

V Maximum Horizontal Ultimate Shear Force, V

= 3250 kN (From Minconsult's Bearing Schedule)
av = 105 mm ;
Fc
Ft β v = V/bd
2 2
= 4.51 N/mm < 0.8√fcu or 5 N/mm
z
av/d = 0.13 ; v/fcu = 0.113
d = 800 From chart z/d = 0.6 ; z = 480 mm

Ft = V /tan β = 3250 /( 480 / 105 ) = 711 kN

Each T 20 bar to be planted will be required to resist 79 kN Tensile Force

Note: Actual horizontal curvature for Pier P3/D2 is R = 200m only whilst the bearing horizontal forces adopted above was
designed for tighter horizontal curvature with R =135m. Therefore, actual tensile force in the proposed rebar
planting will be much smaller.

From HILTI Anchorage Design Calculation, 325 mm anchorage will be sufficient (83kN Tensile Capacity)!
