College Stress

Stress is a part of everyone’s life. A certain amount of stress is to be expected in daily

life, but too much stress may be harmful. The stages towards adulthood have been
characterized with many transitions and challenges. The topic of stress effects on the brain
seems the most interesting to me because of how much stress a college student, as well as
others, can endure. Stress affects a person both mentally and physically. Your mind perceives a
situation and decides whether that situation is a threat. If it seems threatening, it becomes a
stressor.
Stress is common for college students. The transition from high school to college can
become stressful because they’re deciding what they want to do for their future. The lack of
preparation for adulthood when choosing the right major for someone can become stressful.
When college students step into reality knowing what classes to take can become
overwhelming. College students must know how to recognize and manage stress in these
situations. If college students improve their time managing the stress would not be as high.
College students who recognize their stress can be successful at what they want to achieve or
accomplish.
There are numerous stress factors college students encounter while striving to complete
their educational goals. Their grades may be affected by daily life situation stressors that
accumulate throughout the semester. Students’ financial needs, lack of social support, family
drama, and other various circumstances can all mount up to a tremendous amount of stress
and may result in poor grades and lack of collected credits.
“I will be so glad when this semester is over because school is stressing me to the max.”
This is a quote that quite a few college students are familiar with and have probably said
themselves. College can be a fun but also stressful time for students. They are focused on
making sure they attend class and get passing grades so they can be successful and hopefully
succeed in the next chapter of their life.
