As a future mathematics teacher, mention the importance or significance of knowing

students’ perceptions of how they feel about mathematics.

Students’ perceptions can be described as their beliefs and emotions regarding their
knowledge of mathematics and their competence in learning mathematics. Knowing the
students’ perceptions of how they feel towards mathematics benefits both the teacher
and the learner. When a student believes mathematics is too difficult, the teacher can
choose the best methods for teaching the topic so that the students feel confident in
their ability to comprehend math concepts. When students complain that math is
boring, the teacher can counter it by providing engaging activities to increase their
interest in the material. Additionally, the teacher will be able to determine or create the
right environment for them (the students) to learn effectively. Teachers should use
student feedback in a variety of ways to foster a more positive and constructive
perception of mathematics. It is the teacher's responsibility to address students’
negative behavior and perceptions about mathematics because multiple studies have
found that a positive attitude toward mathematics results in higher math achievement.
