Introduction:
'Corporate Social Responsibility' or CSR can be portrayed as Social Responsibility of Corporate
to the overall population. CSR can be viewed as a broad arrangement of plans, practices, and
tasks that are composed into business exercises, supply chains, and dynamic cycles
Frequently people will in general mistake CSR for compliance, however CSR is beyond the
compliance level. Also, there is a typical practice that a few associations attempt to cover the
repercussions of their work through their CSR exercises (for example Tobacco Companies),
which is not fall under CSR.
1.2 Definition of Corporate Social Responsibility
There is distinctive kind of perspectives on what CSR is and what it is not. CSR is more

2. CSR in Bangladesh
The subject of CSR in Bangladesh has gone under
genuine spotlight in the wake of Rana Plaza

the survivors of the “Rana Plaza” victims and also put pressure on garments factories in
Bangladesh.

Working Hours: Overtime hours are to be worked only on the conditin of workers free will.
The highest permissible working hours in a week are 48 and the most allowable overtime hours
in a week are 12.
Annual eye & dental camp: Ananta has built a large medical centre called Shaheed Professor
Shamsuddin Ahmed Medical Centre. A medical administrator & 3 staff nurses assist there on
full-time basis so that the employees can get all time service.
Relief aid in natural disasters: Ananta Management provided for the SIDR affected people.
After the disastrous flood, Athority gave each affected worker taka 500, Potato 2 KGs, Rice 5
Kgs, Dal 2 Kgs, Saline 9 packets, Halogen tablet 1 strip etc.

Grameenphone:
Grameenphone assumes that Telecommunication technology can empower somebody to bring
positive changes in their life.
CSR Initiative:
Grameenphone representatives are offering 'Internet for All' through It's My Turn initiative. It's
My Turn was launched to encourage "Safe Internet" and "Internet for All" amongst the school
students of Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Barisal and Bogra. At the hard times of
the country due to some natural disasters, be it flood, hurricane surge, cold wave, earth quack
Grameenphone always reached its support to the affected helpless people. Grameenphone was
given the Standard Chartered Bank-Financial Express CSR Award for its initiatives - Online
School, Telemedicine, partnership with Special Olympics Bangladesh.
Conclusion: Private companies get 10% tax discount for their CSR activities. Currently, there is
no settled policy in place from the government of Bangladesh for private companies to follow
CSR, although Bangladesh Bank has provided some set of directives to the private banks.The
government is recently working on some new systems, which will have a precise guideline on
CSR practice. Also, Bangladesh bank will observe the performances of CSR. CSR has not been
suitably regularized in Bangladesh yet. Also, many of research work has been conducted to
understand the practice and influence of CSR activities in Bangladesh. This three-bottom line-
People, Profit and Planet idea of CSR, if utilized well, guarantees to bring about stable
development. Hence, all the concerned stakeholders should come forth to build an ecosystem to
assure the right practice of CSR in Bangladesh.
