Dupaya,Janella E.
Activity 1: Word Vocabulary

Words Definition

1.Respiration - It is one of the characteristics of life. a chemical process which takes place in all living things,
release energy from food molecules such as glucose and fat. two type aerobic and anaaerobic.

2. Molecules - The smallest particle of a substance that has all of the physical and chemical properties of that
substance. Molecules are made up of one or more atoms.

3. Aerobic - A chemical process in which oxygen is used to make energy from carbohydrates (sugars). Also
called aerobic metabolism, cell respiration, and oxidative metabolism.

4. Anaerobic - The word anaerobic indicates "without oxygen." The term has many uses in medicine. Anaerobic
bacteria are germs that can survive and grow where there is no oxygen.

5. Ethanol - a member of a class of organic compounds that are given the general name alcohols; its molecular
formula is C2H5OH.

6. Krebs Cycle - The Krebs cycle or TCA cycle (tricarboxylic acid cycle) or Citric acid cycle is a series of enzyme
catalysed reactions occurring in the mitochondrial matrix, where acetyl-CoA is oxidised to form carbon dioxide
and coenzymes are reduced, which generate ATP in the electron transport chain.

7. Electronic Receptor - A molecule inside or on the surface of a cell that binds to a specific substance and
causes a specific effect in the cell.

8. Fermentation - is the breaking down of sugar molecules into simpler compounds to produce substances that
can be used in making chemical energy

9. Evolution - a process that results in changes in the genetic material of a population over time

10. Lactic - A substance made from sugars in milk, by the action of certain enzymes.
