Itinerant miners who defy earthfall for living

People are often injured and killed due to abandoned landslide in Hpakant.In
August 13, A massive mud slide occurs at the jade mine of Ma-Na village
in Hpakant,Kachin.

The landslide was triggered by mining waste collapsing into the lake.There are
more than 30 people who lost in lake with mud because of hit by waves
during earthfall.Although local emergency workers of Hpakant was trying to find
missing people, neither dead body nor surviviors were found until in
the evening of August 14.
"there are no one who find out unil now. As the land is still collapsing little
by little, there is a risk of another landslide, so recuse operation
are not effective," said one from the recuse team."Despite assuming that no one can
alive due to missing time is over 24 hours, recusing processes are still going on
as the
willingness of victim's family members," he added to BBC Myanmar.
However, more than 100 people were involved in the effort to find the victims.A
recuse team member said "All are local recuse workers who help out of
compassion.Currently, any government sector don't collaborate. At the moment,we can
only afford to be sad that people are struggling for living without
putting life first."
According to the final list provided to the civil society organization, we
sorry to hear that there are 36 people who missing.
