Electricity generation
1. What is the difference between renewable and non-
renewable energy generation? Give as many
examples of each as possible.
2. Draw two energy transfer diagrams to show the
generation of electricity:
1. From coal (energy is stored in the chemicals in the coal,
which heats up water, turns a turbine to generate
electricity)
2. From wind (energy is stored in the movement of the
wind, which turns a turbine to generate electricity)
Electricity generation: answers
1. Non-renewable: energy resource being used up at a much
faster rate than it can be replaced. Renewable: energy
resource that can easily and quickly be replaced in a
sustainable way.

Circuits
1. Define the following: a) current; b) potential difference.
2. Draw the following circuits: i) two cells and two bulbs in
series; ii) two cells and two bulbs each in parallel; iii) three
cells, two bulbs in series with each other and one bulb in
parallel with the other two.
3. Complete the ‘series and parallel circuits’ worksheet.
4. Extension: Each cell generates 1.5 V and the current
flowing through the first circuit is 2 A, meaning each bulb
has a resistance of 0.75 Ω. Given that
resistance = voltage/current, calculate the potential
difference across each bulb and circuit down each branch
of circuits ii) and iii) above.
Circuits: answers
1. Current: how quickly the electrons flow around the circuit;
potential difference: the ‘push’ given to these electrons, the
amount of energy transferred by the circuit.
2.

3.
4. 2nd circuit: current through each branch = 4 A; total current
through cells = 8 A; potential difference = 3 V in each. 3rd
circuit: current through two bulbs = 3 A; current through one
bulb = 6 A; total current through cells = 9 A; potential
difference = 4.5 V down each branch.
Forces
1. Draw diagrams showing the forces in the following:
1. A car at rest (all forces)
2. A duck floating on water (vertical forces) Force (N) Extension
(mm)
3. A car slowing down (horizontal forces) 0 0
4. A coiled spring (vertical forces)
2 31
2. A set of masses were added to a spring, the 4 60
data is shown across. Draw a graph for this 6 90
set of data. Write a conclusion. 8 118
3. Complete the worksheet ‘more on speed’ 10 150
