believe that the government has the responsibility to deal with it. Do you agree or disagree
The soaring rates of obese and unhealthy children are witnessed in several countries in the
world. While I believe that the government should assume some responsibility to mitigate the
situation, I contend that parents and children should take actions to lead a healthy lifestyle.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why the government should be accountable for the
overall well-being of children. Firstly, governmental bodies are founded thanks to the support
of the citizens; as a result, they should impose certain policies to encourage healthier lifestyle
among people, especially children. For instance, higher taxes on sugary drinks or unhealthy
products should be introduced, which somehow discourages children from consuming them.
Secondly, only when the government prioritizes the children’s healthcare can they take actions
to help them adopt a healthier lifestyle. To illustrate, the government should include lessons
about healthcare at school so that children can learn about how to live healthily. Also, some
healthcare programs for the public may be organized to promote people’s awareness about
On the other hand, parents and children themselves should be the ones to be responsible for
the children’s well-being. For one thing, no one can understand their own health condition
better than themselves. Therefore, children should take an active role in protecting their own
health rather than passively waiting for other support. For another, parents are supposed to
supply their children with proper guidance regarding nutrition and be the role models for their
children to follow. They might encourage their children to abandon sedentary lifestyle and
join their children in some physical activity to improve their metabolism and keep fit.
In conclusion, I am of the agreement that both the government and parents together with their
children should shoulder the responsibility to tackle childhood obesity and enhance the
