In many countries, many children are becoming overweight and unhealthy.

Some people

believe that the government has the responsibility to deal with it. Do you agree or disagree

with this opinion?

The soaring rates of obese and unhealthy children are witnessed in several countries in the

world. While I believe that the government should assume some responsibility to mitigate the

situation, I contend that parents and children should take actions to lead a healthy lifestyle.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why the government should be accountable for the

overall well-being of children. Firstly, governmental bodies are founded thanks to the support

of the citizens; as a result, they should impose certain policies to encourage healthier lifestyle

among people, especially children. For instance, higher taxes on sugary drinks or unhealthy

products should be introduced, which somehow discourages children from consuming them.

Secondly, only when the government prioritizes the children’s healthcare can they take actions

to help them adopt a healthier lifestyle. To illustrate, the government should include lessons

about healthcare at school so that children can learn about how to live healthily. Also, some

healthcare programs for the public may be organized to promote people’s awareness about

different methods to stay healthy and avoid obesity.

On the other hand, parents and children themselves should be the ones to be responsible for

the children’s well-being. For one thing, no one can understand their own health condition

better than themselves. Therefore, children should take an active role in protecting their own

health rather than passively waiting for other support. For another, parents are supposed to
supply their children with proper guidance regarding nutrition and be the role models for their

children to follow. They might encourage their children to abandon sedentary lifestyle and

join their children in some physical activity to improve their metabolism and keep fit.

In conclusion, I am of the agreement that both the government and parents together with their

children should shoulder the responsibility to tackle childhood obesity and enhance the

physical health of the future generation. If the endeavor only comes from one party, the

desirable outcome cannot be produced.
