Stonehenge is a massive stone monument located on a chalky plain north of the modern-day city of
Salisbury, England. Research shows that the site has continuously evolved over a period of about 10,000
years. The structure that we call “Stonehenge” was built between roughly 5,000 and 4,000 years ago and
that forms just one part of a larger, and highly complex, sacred landscape.

The biggest of Stonehenge’s stones, known as sarsens, are up to 30 feet (9 meters) tall and weigh 25 tons
(22.6 metric tons) on average. It is widely believed that they were brought from Marlborough Downs, a
distance of 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the north.

Smaller stones, referred to as “bluestones” (they have a bluish tinge when wet or freshly broken), weigh
up to 4 tons and come from several different sites in western Wales, having been transported as far as 140
miles (225 km). It’s unknown how people in antiquity moved them that far. Scientists have raised the
possibility that during the last ice age glaciers carried these bluestones closer to the Stonehenge area and
the monument’s makers didn’t have to move them all the way from Wales. Water transport through raft is
another idea that has been proposed but researchers now question whether this method was viable.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

There was once a young shepherd boy who tended his sheep at the foot of a mountain near
a dark forest. It was lonely for him watching the sheep all day. No one was near, except for
three farmers he could sometimes see working in the fields in the valley below.

One day the boy thought of a plan that would help him get a little company and have some
fun. He ran down toward the valley crying, “Wolf! Wolf!”

The men ran to meet him, and after they found out there was no wolf after all, one man
remained to talk with the boy awhile.

The boy enjoyed the company so much that a few days later he tried the same prank again,
and again the men ran to help him.

A few days later, a real wolf came from the forest and began to steal the sheep. The startled
boy ran toward the valley, and more loudly than ever he cried, “Wolf! Wolf!”

A rainbow is a multi-colored arc that forms in the sky. Rainbows are created by both reflection and
refraction (bending) of light in water droplets in the atmosphere, which results in a spectrum of light
appearing. A rainbow is not an object, it cannot be approached or physically touched.

A rainbow is in fact a full circle of light. However, due to most people viewing a rainbow on the
ground we only see a semi-circle or arc of the rainbow. A rainbow is not situated at a specified distance,
instead it will always be visible to a person at the precise angle freshwater droplets reflect the light which
is 42 degrees in the opposite direction of the sun. Two people can’t see the same rainbow; in fact even our
individual eyes see slightly different rainbows. If someone appears to be standing under a rainbow you
can see, they will see a different rainbow at the same angle but further away.
Rainbows can be seen not just in rain but also mist, spray, fog, and dew, whenever there are water drops
in the air and light shining from behind at the right angle. A “double rainbow” is where a second, much
fainter arc can be seen outside of the primary arc. This is caused by the light reflecting twice inside the
water droplets. As a result of this double reflection the colors of the second arc are inverted with violet on
the outer edge and red on the inner edge. A “moon bow” is a rare lunar rainbow or night time rainbow
produced by light from the moon. Our eyes see it as white even though all colors are faintly present. A
“fogbow” is formed by cloud and fog droplets, they are almost white with very faint colors visible.
Fogbows are quite large and much broader than a rainbow.

34. What is the main idea of paragraph two?

A. Two people can’t see the same rainbow.
B. In fact, a rainbow is a full circle of light.
C. A rainbow is not situated at a specified distance,
D. We will see a different rainbow at the same angle.

35. Which statement is related to rainbow?

A. It is created by both reflection and refraction of light.
B. People can not only approach but also touch a rainbow.
C. Two people can see the same rainbow at the same place.
D. Rainbows only can be seen in rain and mist not in others.

36. The text about rainbow will be very useful for those who are ....
A. eager to know how to beatify the world
B. in charge in making the government policy
C. interested in the study of natural phenomenon
D. active in the activity of saving the environment

Frogs are fascinating animals that have unique behaviours and characteristics. A frog is an amphibian.
They lay their eggs in water. The eggs hatch into a tadpole which lives in water until it metamorphoses
into an adult frog. Tadpoles look more like fish than frogs, they have long finned tails and breathe
through gills. An amphibian can live both on land and in water. Although frogs live on land their habitat
must be near swamps, ponds or in a damp place. This is because they will die if their skin dries out.
Instead of drinking water, frogs soak it into their body through their skin. Frogs breathe through their
nostrils while also absorbing about half the air they need through their skin.

Frogs use their sticky, muscular tongue to catch and swallow food. Unlike humans, their tongue is not
attached to the back of its mouth. Instead it is attached to the front, enabling the frog to stick its tongue
out much further. Frogs can see forwards, sideways and upwards all at the same time. They never close
their eyes, even when they sleep. Remarkably, frogs actually use their eyes to help them swallow food.
When the frog blinks, its eyeballs are pushed downwards creating a bulge in the roof of its mouth. This
bulge squeezes the food inside the frog’s mouth down the back of its throat.

37. What is the writer’s purpose to write the text?
