PRIOR ART SEARCH REPORT

1. OBJECTIVE OF SEARCH

Objective of this assignment is to find out prior art references for the elements as claimed in
independent claim 1 and dependent claims 3&4 by the United States patent #7917285 titled “Device,
system and method for remotely entering, storing and sharing addresses for a positional information
device”. Prior art references published before the priority date of the patent i.e. April 28, 2006, are
preferred to form part of the report

2. UNDERSTANDING THE SUBJECT MATTER

The patent relates to a system for entering location information into a

positional information device. The system includes a server configured to
receive a request for at least one location, determine coordinates of the least
one requested location, and to transmit the determined coordinates to the
device. The positional information device includes a location information
module for determining location information of the device; a communication
module for receiving coordinates of the at least one location from the server;
and a processing module configured to receive the coordinates from the
communication module and determine route guidance based on the location
of the device and the received coordinates.

The essence of the invention lies in the use of first and secondary identifiers.
When transmitting the requested location, a local computer may also
transmit cookie information (first identifier) so as to enable identification of
the user without having to provide identification information by manual input
or spoken word. The server then utilizes a standard database lookup program
based on the received identifier (cookie information) to find out information
relating to the user's positional information device including transmission
information (second identifier) for the positional information device that may
be the cellular telephone number of the device or a vehicle or the
Internet address (e.g., the IP address) of the device or vehicle.

ABSTRACT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system allowing a user accessing to a site by use of a PC to transfer contents of the site to one's
portable information terminal by a simple operation.

SOLUTION: The site providing spot information provides a mobile link button embedded with a function sending spot information and a
process start request to a server of a predetermined address by one click on a browser operating on the terminal of the user. When the user

clicks the mobile link button displayed on a display screen of the browser once, the server acquires the spot information, it also acquires cookie
information from the browser for user authentication, and it records the spot information in association with identification information of the
user in a data base. The user sends the identification information and a transfer request of the spot information from a car navigation device,
receives the user authentication, acquires the spot information, and uses the spot information in a navigation application.

Searcher’s Summary

The prior art relates to a system that allows a user accessing to a site by use of a PC to transfer contents of the site to one's portable
information terminal by a simple operation. When a user who wants to share/send the spot information for e.g. of the restaurant C, with his /
her car navigation device, the user clicks the mobile link button displayed on the browser of the PC. Upon clicking the mobile link button, the
spot information of the restaurant C is transferred to a server having a predetermined URL along with browser cookies to identify the user that
includes User ID and password for authentication.

As per an embodiment of the prior art, since the user’s email address is stored in the server, the server matches email ID corresponding to user
ID and uses it to send spot information to user’s portable information terminal.
