HOUSING SUBSIDY
 WHAT IS CAF?
CAF (Caisse d’Allocations Familiales or Family Benefits
Organization)

This agency determines the level of social benefits each resident

in France is eligible to receive (if you pay a rental you receive
the housing subsidy)

The possibility to receive the subsidy is mainly based on your

residence permit and length of stay

The amount depends on: the amount of rent, your income, the
type of accommodation and its location. It usually ranges from
100€ to 200€/month
CAF APPLICATION

1) You should apply online on the French website

www.caf.fr

The instructions will be provided by email

2) You should provide the necessary documents

3) Please wait, it can take up to 2 months to receive a

first payment.
 IMPORTANT
CAF will not send the payments to you until they receive all the documents

The month when you apply is lost. If you apply in August, you will receive money
from September even if your contract begins in August or earlier.

You will be registered with different CAF centers depending on your address &
district, (Paris (75), Hauts-de-Seine (92) …) who do not all process the same
number of applicants, so the time frame may differ per district.

CAF takes AT LEAST 1-2 months to process your application, so the first payment
(if your application is complete) won’t be made before at least 2 months after
the receipt of your application

You can apply without the Social Security number, but you need to apply for it as
soon as possible.
At the end of the application process, please do not forget to save your
temporary CAF number (numéro d’identifiant provisoire), otherwise you will not
get access to your account.
