Proposal For End Galamsey Initiative
Proposal For End Galamsey Initiative
Proposal For End Galamsey Initiative
Our solution targets particularly Women and Youth who could go into Small and Medium
Entrepreneurship but are rather involved in Galamsey.
4. TO ELABORATE ON OUR SOLUTION
Our proposed solution is to develop a regional youth training system, where qualified and
competent people from our region will volunteer to teach youth engaged in Galamsey from each
of the districts on current and innovative ways of farming, craftworks (Soap and sanitizer making,
beads making, dress making, among others). Those who have gotten some money through
Galamsey will be helped to start their own business in a way to discourage them from thinking the
only way to succeed in life is to go into Galamsey. They will be taught how to start a business and
growing it to a sustainable end. Those who will receive the training will also train starters and
entrepreneurs in various communities in their respective districts. Hence making Galamsey
unpopular and unattractive venture for our youth. Some of the youth who have learned how to drive
tractors used for the Galamsey will volunteer to cover pits left behind by the act of Galamsey. This
will be made possible by using seized machines such as tractors to cover the lands.
The concept is a binary system, where a team of experts at the regional level select at least 10
young entrepreneurs from each district (base on the size and population) to receive technical
training and guidance on the SDGs and African Continental Free Trade Area and how to develop
an innovative and effective business to generate a sustained income. Trainees from the regional
level will act as district coordinating team of which each of them will be charged to supervise a
number of communities where they will recruit at least 25 other young entrepreneurs in each
community in their district. Entrepreneurs who have received training at the community level will
form the unit committee, where they will meet regularly to share ideas and as well visit public
gatherings such as churches and markets to educate the populace on why they should not give their
lands out for Galamsey and why they should all come together to discourage the act.
Our solution is innovative in such a way that we wouldn’t need much effort to reach out to a larger
number of youths, training and enlightening one person on the initiative will end up educating other
100 or more youth. As we are conscious about COVID 19 protocols, our training sessions wouldn’t
gather more than 100 people at a time but if every single trainee is training another group of
individuals, then we are counting of having 90 youth undergoing training at the regional level (10
each from the 9 municipal/district Assembly), 900 trainees at the district level (each of the 90
training 10 each) and 22,500 at the community level (this will form the unit and grassroots training
machinery). With 22,500 entrepreneurs receiving skills and knowledge of the negative impact of
Galamsey and helping them have alternative source of income across the region, we will end up
reaching every single individual from the western north region. What would make our solution
different is how flexible and sizable nature each supervisory role could be executed without
difficulties since it deals with a few youths at a time. Our strategy will engage and train women
and youth with or without any formal educational qualifications but with passion to do something
to generate income for their daily upkeep other destroying our land.
5. DURATION OF THE PROJECT

13. PLANS ON SUSTAINING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SOLUTION
Members of the team are made up of young dedicated youth who volunteer to offer services to
the foundation during our communal engagement projects. We will consult our traditional leaders
who willingly offer support through referral to appropriate government agencies found in our
region for any form of assistance required. Media personalities in our region are our official
Goodwill Ambassadors, hence our projects will be given free publicity on radio stations.
Bringing all these together gives us the edge to sustain the initiative once it is fully
operationalized.
Having all our expertise and volunteers in place, what we encounter as a challenge is the source of
funding for basic needs such as food, transportation, technical logistics and accommodation needed
for our youth who are offering free services with their expertise. A source of funding from your
institution will facilitate our execution process as we can have constant and continual engagement
of the people at the grassroots level.
12.QUALITIES OUR TEAM POSSESS THAT WILL MAKE US ACHIEVE THIS GOAL
As youth organization we have members of the media fraternity who are part of our team
who will facilitate dissemination of information to the masses.
We have university lecturers in our team who will help with theoretical training of the
youth on how to write business, financial proposals, and policies of the planting for food
for jobs. We also have qualified Agric officers who will help in training the youth in
innovative farming and post-harvest loss management.
We have IT personnel who will help with the branding and marketing aspect of our
entrepreneurs, craftsmen and women.
Our Western North Women in Leadership team will mobilize women to enable total
participation of our women. While the past 4 participants of TV3 Ghana Most Beautiful
from our region who serve as our Brand Ambassadors of Western North Women in
Leadership and Entrepreneurship, will inform their funs about the projects.
We have a team of qualified health workers who will help in delivery first Aid when need
arises.
In terms of weakness, we have challenges with accommodation for trainers and trainees,
and means of transportation and basic equipment needed for the education.
poverty, we will have enough food to feed our people and well export the excess through
the African Continental Free Trade Area.
