Requirements: Preservation requirements for Supplier packages Classification: Internal
1.1 Objective
The objective of this document is to describe the general Preservation requirements for Supplier
Packages.
The Preservation activities performed on Supplier Packages form an important basis for subsequent
equipment installation, Commissioning and Start up of the different systems on the project. Resultant
information and specific documentation is also carried forward for utilisation during the production phase.
It is very important that sufficient attention is paid to the fulfilment of the specified requirements.
All Preservation records will be issued through a web based link from the Company completion system
ProCoSys. All necessary information can be found there, and all required documentation/results shall be
given electronically into the system.
1.3 Provision
Preservation Manual (WR2364) (Equinor/All locations/On- and offshore)
2 Requirements
2.1 General
Supplier has the full responsibility for the equipment during manufacturing period and shall deliver the
equipment initially preserved according to his own approved preservation instructions and agreed
Company special preservation requirements.
The preservation instructions shall take into consideration possible situations which may occur during the
complete project period, and the Supplier shall be aware that his preservation instructions and initial
preservation form the basis for preservation maintenance throughout the whole project development
period.
Initial preservation shall be based on outdoor storage under salient weather conditions and for the
applicable project period.
Special Supplier requirements regarding storage and maintenance preservation exceeding minimum
requirements in Company's Preservation Manual shall be specified on Preservation Records.
All skids, equipment, piping and bulk orders shall be clean, dry, dustfree and free from any corrosion prior
to initial preservation and transport.
Prior to release, all in/outlets from units/skids shall be plugged/ blanked. Unless otherwise specified,
flanges shall be blanked with oil resistant rubber gaskets or self adhesive flange protector and steel or
water resistant plywood blanks with galvanised bolts sufficient to provide mechanical protection and
water/dust tight sealing. Threaded openings shall have metal plugs compatible with the metallurgy of the
component being capped or plugged. If IP rating is maintained, plastic plugs are acceptable for non
hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

Guidelines:
Drain out water in carbon steel piping systems. Prepare a mixture of preservation corrosion inhibitor and
water according to inhibitor manufactures recommendation. Flush through system with this mixture. Drain
out system ensuring that no water remains trapped in system.
Machined and untreated carbon steel surfaces to be preserved by using a film of corrosion wax
Apply/fasten a 6 mm plywood board to all glasses in instruments/panel fronts. For panel fronts, a wooden
frame for corner protection shall be installed in addition to the front panel.
Aluminium sheeted glass fibre cloth, min. 0,3 KG per m², shall be used to envelope pressure gauges,
controllers, panels, junction boxes, temp. instruments, telecom. equipment, detectors, transmitters,
heaters, pushbutton stands and connection boxes.
All exposed valvespindels shall be sprayed with lubricate oil and wrapped with vulke tape around the
yoke.
Gear boxes for valves shall be greased for life. ie filled 100% with grease Type :Equinor Uniway LI-62 or
similar. In addition the seal surface between lid and valve gear housing shall be sealed using silicone
Grease nipples shall be protected with " Grease nipple cap"
Packing of equipment for transportation shall protect the equipment against humidity, dust and mechanical
stress which may occur during outdoor storage, or loading and unloading operations. The enclosure used
for this purpose shall be constructed so as to allow for stripping down of the unit, enable receival
inspection and maintenance preservation to be carried out and be provided with hatches for access for
lifting, hook-up of piping, electrical/instrument cabling and tubing, without dismantling the entire enclosure.
Note: Under no circumstances shall preservation products containing hazardous chemicals be used.
Insulation resistance:
All electrical equipment shall have the insulation resistance measured for motors, heaters, generators,
converters and transformers". Measurements shall be recorded on preservation record EP-01.
Measurements must be taken and recorded not more than 1 month prior to delivery date.

All openings in hydraulic/pneumatic tubing shall be provided with steel caps or solid shank steel plugs
compatible with the metallurgy of the component being capped or plugged. Non-metallic plugs shall not be
used.
Bolts used for temporary blinds shall not cause corrosion on equipment.
All exposed unpainted machined surfaces shall be coated with preservation wax.
Coat all carbon steel flanges on gasket faces, including access hatch covers with preservative wax
Prepare a mixture of vci and oil in pump housing/gear house to avoid corrosion, according to inhibitor
manufactures recommendation and supplier preservation instuction
Any additional heating or vapour corrosion inhibitor requirements within temporary enclosures for sensitive
equipment shall be adhered to.
On insulated units, where the insulation could be exposed to damage during storage or installation, the
insulation shall be protected with 10 mm plywood sheets.
2.5 Documentation
Status "OK"
This status means that the Supplier has completed the check items and there is no further work
associated with these inspections.
Status "PA"
This means that the Supplier has not completed all work or checks associated with this tag. "PA" means in
principal that work must be completed prior to delivery. If the supplier is unable to complete the work prior
to delivery, acceptance of the applicable equipment must be agreed with Company or his representative.
The outstanding work or checks shall be recorded on a Punch List by clicking on the Punch List button on
the screen and fill in the information.
If an inspection item on the Preservation Record is not applicable for the Supplier, the Supplier shall mark
this item with “NA”

Standard Preservation Records and Maintenance Check Lists are available. See forms included in
Appendix A.
3 Additional information
Preservation
Preservation means that the equipment and systems are protected against potential external and internal
deterioration.
Initial preservation
Initial preservation means application of specified preservatives and fitting of specified protection to any
equipment/system by Suppliers prior to delivery to maintain the equipment/system unimpaired.
Preservation maintenance
Preservation maintenance means periodic maintenance to keep the initial preservation intact and
maintained in accordance with Company or his Representative's and Suppliers preservation requirements.
Preservation records
The preservation records form the basis for documentation of preservation during all phases of a project.
For each of the three main disciplines; Mechanical, Electrical and Instrument, standard preservation
records have been developed. Piping, HVAC, Insulation, Surface Protection, Structural and Safety are
included in Mechanical discipline.
