Significance and Influence of Globalization:

The Perspective Views of Nursing Students at Liceo de Cagayan University

Globalization has been the major phenomenon of the Contemporary World ushering in its

new generation of advances, developments, and ideas that would undeniably change the world

for the better or for the worse. One of the many important feats of this event is evident in Higher

education, where systems, policies, and institutions are being transformed by the

interconnectedness of Globalization. Higher education institutions are more important than ever

as mediums for a wide range of cross-border relationships and continuous global flows of

people, information, knowledge, technologies, products, and financial capital.

We conducted a survey among Nursing students of Liceo de Cagayan University to know

and analyze their views of what a Global Nurse is about, as well as the Level of Influence and

Significance of Globalization in the following aspects of its influence on the college and

development. The relationship between respondents' profiles and globalization is not

deterministic or uniform. Different individuals within the same demographic group may have

distinct experiences and perspectives on globalization. Moreover, globalization itself is a

complex and evolving phenomenon, and its effects can vary across different regions and time

periods. Thus, the respondents’ opinions of what makes a Global Nurse may vary greatly as well

as the Influence and Significance of Globalization.

The Conceptual framework presents a discussion and analysis that aims to understand

and analyze the views and perspectives of nursing students towards Globalization in terms of

their ideals about a Global Nurse, its significance in many aspects of development as well as its

influence on the many factors constituting the College.

The Profile of the Respondents shows that a total of forty respondents: Aged 18 – 20

years old were a majority, comprised of 37 respondents followed by 20 – 21 years old with 3

respondents; Female respondents were the highest in terms of Gender, taking up 29 respondents

while male respondents only took up by 10 respondents and with one respondent preferring not

to say. In terms of Year level, the First year was the highest with 32 respondents, followed by the

Second year with 6 respondents, and the Third year with 2 respondents. Therefore, most of the

respondents are predominantly First-year, female nursing students, aged 18-20 students of the

Liceo de Cagayan University – College of Nursing representing most of the views of the

respondents’ survey results and analysis.

The Views of the respondents for what makes a Global Nurse was categorized based on

the statements provided as to the focus of each respondents’ statements. Overall, the answers of

the respondents were categorized according to Great Personal Characteristics, Socio-culturally

focused, Economically driven, and Technologically oriented as what makes a Global Nurse. The

answers were categorized on either one category or two categories depending on the statements.

The majority indicated “Great Personal Characteristics” as what makes a Global Nurse, followed

by “Socio-culturally focused”, then “Economically driven”, and “Technologically oriented”.

For the Level of Influence of Globalization in the College, it shows that for a total of

forty respondents: Many of the respondents viewed the Level of Influence of Globalization in the

College as both Very High and High in terms of Physical Technology; both High and Moderate

in terms of Virtual Technology; High in terms of Social Technology; and High in terms of the

other Social Technology. Therefore, many of the respondents viewed the Level of Influence of

Globalization in the College as averagely High in terms of Physical, Virtual, and Social

Technology indicating the substantially prominent influence of Globalization when it comes to

the facilitation, management, presence, reputation, and education of the College.

For the perceived Significance of Globalization among respondents, it shows that for a

total of forty respondents: Many of the respondents viewed the Significance of Globalization as

High in terms of Personal Development; High in terms of Economic Development; High in terms

of Socio-cultural Development; and High in terms of Political Development. Therefore, the

majority of the respondents viewed the Significance of Globalization as averagely High in terms

of Personal, Economic, Socio-cultural, and Political Development ushering the significant help

and impact of Globalization in the development of many important aspects of society and the

masses, viewed at the perspective of each individual citizen as represented by the respondents.

Conclusion

Based on the survey results, a conclusion was drawn revealing that a significant number

of respondents perceives the college of nursing to have a High level of being Global. It

demonstrated that globalization has a substantial influence on the college’s environment,

affecting physical, virtual, and social technology. Regarding the significance of globalization,

most respondents viewed it as highly significant in terms of personal development, economic

development, socio-cultural development, and political development. The diverse views of the

respondents on what qualities and attributes define a Global Nurse points to Great Personal

Characteristics. Socio-culturally focused attributes, economically driven and technologically

oriented has also been recognize by the respondents as important traits of a Global Nurse.

Lesson

The substantial impact of globalization on our College, encompasses physical, virtual,

and social technology. It indicates that globalization plays an important role in facilitating and

managing the college's operations, enhancing its reputation, and advancing educational practices.

Globalization is seen as highly significant in promoting personal, economic, socio-cultural, and

political development. These results highlight the interconnectedness of the college of nursing

with the global landscape and the need for institutions to embrace and adapt to globalization as

an opportunity for growth and development. By harnessing the benefits of globalization, colleges

and universities can provide enhanced educational experiences that can contribute to the overall

progress of not only its students but the society. Recognizing the influence and significance of

globalization is essential for shaping strategies and policies that align with the evolving needs of

students and the wider community in an increasingly interconnected world.
