Kuwait College of Science and Technology is fully licensed by the nation’s Ministry of Higher

Education/Private Universities Council and started its operation in 2016 offering degrees in Computer
Science, Computer Engineering and Electronics and Communications Engineering. In 2022, the student
population exceeded 1800, and the first cohort of engineers has graduated. The University has an
outstandingly high research output in the context of the private universities in the Region.

One of the cornerstones of the University’s strategy is “Engineering with Leadership”, which means that
the University aims to produce engineering graduates who are aware and conversant with management
theory and techniques. Thus, its current engineering curricula already contain significant portions of
economics, management, and entrepreneurship. In the near future, a new Faculty of Business
Management will be launched.

The department of Student and Academic Affairs is recruiting ambitious and passionate graduates with a

Job Vacancy Academic Advisor (Local candidates Only)

OVERVIEW TO THE ROLE:


The Academic Advisor has the responsibility to guide and support students in their academic
journey at KCST. The role involves providing the students with accurate and relevant
information, assisting them in making informed decisions and helping them in achieving their
educational and academic goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Student Guidance and Support
a. Meet with students individually to discuss their academic progress, goals and
concerns.
b. Assist students in selecting suitable courses based on their program, level and
CGPA.
c. Provide guidance on degree requirements, course sequencing and prerequisites,
and academic policies and procedures.
d. Help students develop personalized academic plans and monitor their progress
towards graduation.
2. Academic Program Knowledge
a. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of KCST’s academic programs, majors,
specializations, and academic support services.
b. Stay updated with any changes or updates to the curriculum, course offerings, and
academic policies.
c. Advise students on available academic resources, such as tutoring services and
other services provided by KCST.
3. Curriculum Planning and Course Registration
a. Assist students in creating semester schedules that align with their academic goals
and requirements.
b. Review course offerings, prerequisites, and course availability to help students
plan their course selection.
c. Provide guidance on course load, time management, and balancing academic and
personal commitments.
d. Provide the academic programs with academic advising results to plan the course/
sections offering accordingly with the registration department.
4. Academic Progress Monitoring and Intervention
a. Monitor students’ academic progress, including grades, attendance, and overall
performance.
b. Identify students who are struggling academically and provide appropriate
interventions and referrals to support services (such as tutoring).
c. Collaborate with faculty members and other stakeholders to develop strategies
for student success and retention.
d. Assist students in navigating academic challenges, such as course withdrawals,
probation, or academic appeals.
5. Career and Educational Counseling
a. Help students explore career options, assess their skills and interests, and connect
them with relevant resources for career development, in collaboration with
academic events and alumni office.
b. Assist students in developing job search strategies, writing resumes, and preparing
for interviews, in collaboration with the alumni office and the English Language
Head of Department.
6. Record Keeping and Documentation
a. Maintain accurate and confidential records od student interactions, academic
plans, and progress reports.
b. Document advising sessions, interventions, and referrals for future reference
follow-up.
c. Stay updated with student information systems and advising tools to efficiently
track student records.
QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

• Education: A bachelor’s degree, preferably in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or Computer


Science.
• A previous experience in academic institution student affairs and/ or registration and/ or advising
department/ unit is a plus.
• Detail oriented, organized and can communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and act wisely
and decisively.
• Extreme attention to detail is essential, as well as strong internet skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external clients.
• Ability to work under pressure, unsupervised, and as a member of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze information, situations, problems, policies and procedures to
formulate logical and objective decisions.
