FOREWORD

Prescribing medications is an important aspect of medical practice. A drug

prescription is a written instruction given by a doctor to a patient to obtain
medication that suits their health condition. This process requires caution, clarity,
and good communication between doctors, pharmacists, and patients. By
maintaining good practice standards in prescribing medications, we hope to
provide the best care for our patients.

In this book, we will discuss various aspects related to prescribing medicines,

including practical guidelines for writing prescriptions, important information
about medicines, as well as ethical guidelines that must be followed by health
practitioners. This book also serves as a useful reference source for medical
students and health professionals.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background
Prescribing is the process in which a medical professional, such as a doctor, dentist, or
nutritionist, gives their patients written instructions about the type and dose of medication or
treatment to take. Prescribing background involves several important aspects, including medical
diagnosis, medical knowledge, professional ethics, consulting with patients, clear prescription
writing, monitoring and follow-up

2.1 The purpose of the paper

1.Treatment: One of the main purposes of administering medication is to treat diseases or

medical disorders. These drugs aim to reduce or eliminate symptoms of disease, treat infections,
control blood pressure, or treat chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.

2.Prevention: Some drugs are used to prevent the onset of disease or medical complications. For
example, vaccines are used to prevent infections, while antihypertensive drugs may be used to
prevent heart attacks or strokes in individuals with high blood pressure.

3.Symptom Control: Medications are often used to reduce unpleasant or bothersome symptoms,
such as pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, or inflammation. For example, analgesics such as
ibuprofen are used to treat pain.

Steps for giving a recipe

3.1 step by step

The following are the general steps required in the process of prescribing drugs in a pharmacy:

1. Receive Recipe: The patient comes to the pharmacy and provides a medical prescription
issued by the doctor and the prescription must include information such as the patient's name,
date, name of the drug, dose, amount of drug to be given, and instructions for use.

2. Recipe Verification: The pharmacist will check that the prescription has been signed by a
doctor or authorized health professional. And the Pharmacist will also check whether the
prescription is still valid, because some prescriptions have an expiration date.

3. Drug Preparation: After verification of the prescription, the pharmacist will collect the
appropriate medication from the pharmacy stock. They will check the medication carefully to
ensure that it is prescribed as prescribed.

4. Patient Consultation: Pharmacists will provide consultations to patients regarding medication

use.

5.Medicine Dispensing: The pharmacist will give the medicine to the patient according to the
prescription written by the doctor. Then the patient must pay for the medicine according to the
pharmacy policy and the pharmacist can provide additional information about drug storage,
interactions with food or experiencing unwanted side effects.

6. Recording: All transactions at the pharmacy, including drug administration and patient
consultation, must be carefully recorded for administration and reporting purposes.

CLOSING
4.1 Conclusion

The conclusion is a summary of the results of drug use which usually includes an evaluation of
the positive and negative impacts of treatment. This conclusion is based on the patient's response
to the drug, the effectiveness of the treatment, possible side effects, and an assessment of the risk
of benefit against the risks associated with the treatment. Always ensure that you follow the
medical and legal guidelines applicable to medical practices in your area when prescribing
medications. Also, clear communication with patients is key to ensuring that they understand
how to use medications correctly to achieve desired results and avoid undesirable risks.
