Camshaft Assembly

Introduction
In order to perform the Camshaft Assembly procedure, the prep, replacement and inspection must be
completed prior.

Module Objectives:

Given a camshaft, the appropriate service literature, tooling and the Lab J Worksheet, the participant will be
able to:
 Perform a Job Safety Analysis on the prescribed task.
 Safely perform the Camshaft Assembly Procedure and return the machine to operational conditions as
indicated on the Lab J worksheets with no errors and within the required time (1 hour).

Instructor Notes:

Participants will perform the Camshaft Assembly Procedure as described on the instructor worksheet. The
participant must perform all the steps with 100% accuracy, within the time allotted (1 hour) and in a safe and
secure manner.
 Ensure all procedure steps are completed.
 Ensure participant prepares a Job Safety Analysis.
 Ensure participant has appropriate PPE before starting the lab.
 Ensure participant has completed the knowledge portion of the training prior to conducting the procedure.
 Ensure machine is placed in a safe work condition before participant conducts the procedure.
 Ensure when training is completed, component is returned to operational conditions.
 Ensure all documents are signed and acknowledged as needed.
 Ensure that training documents are returned to training department when completed.

Camshaft Assembly

Before the camshaft assembly procedure is

performed, participants should perform the following:

Step 1  Preparation
– Participants will verify that the work area allows
room for the camshaft.

– Participants will acquire a .005 inch shim steel to

cover any snap ring grooves that could damage
the seals on the shouldered composite bushing
Step 2 during assembly.

Camshaft Assembly

Perform the Camshaft Assembly Procedure. Yes No Completed

Once preparation is completed, participants should

perform the following camshaft assembly:
 Camshaft Assembly
– Once protected, slide the shouldered composite
bushing onto the camshaft until it rests against
the cam as shown.
Step 1

– Participant will install a boot cover at the opposite

end of the camshaft. Ensure the sealing edge is
oriented correctly.

Step 2

– Participants will install a snap ring and back-up

washer. Slide composite bushing onto camshaft.

Step 3 Note:
 Do not apply green Loctite.

– Participants will install back-up washer and snap

ring.
