Effective writing is achieved by writing with a logical flow of ideas, which makes understanding the objective

easier. ​It is important to choose the right channel of communication in order to ensure effective
communication.

There are two broad channels of communication, which include the following:

The ATOM framework can be used to answer certain necessary questions before starting to write your
message. The elements of the ATOM framework are given below.

● Audience: ​It refers to the people you are addressing, and they can be divided into two types, as
shown below.

● Time: ​It indicates the amount of time that you want your audience to spend reading your message; you
need to plan the length and the word count of your write-up accordingly.

● Objective: ​It refers to the desired message that you want to convey to your audience.

● Medium: ​A medium is a channel through which information reaches from the source to the
destination.
○ There are three main factors that can affect the choice of the medium, as shown below.

One of the most frequently used formal mediums of written communication in businesses:​ Reports.

● Reports are generally chosen for detailed analysis, and the content of a report is structured according
to the ATOM framework. The three types of reports are given below.

1. Letter of Transmittal: ​It is a type of cover letter that accompanies a document or a report.

2. Executive Summary:

● It is a short document that summarises a report in a way such that the reader can be acquainted with

Email refers to electronic mail and is one of the widely used features of the internet.there are many elements
and guidelines that should be taken care of while drafting an email.

An email can be broadly divided into the following three sections :

1. Recipients:
a. Recipients can be categorised under the following different fields in an email:

b. The RACI matrix is used to understand the order in which you should add your recipients. The
matrix is given below.

2. Subject Line: A subject line determines whether your client will open your mail or not; hence, writing
an effective subject line is one of the most crucial aspects of an email.

3. Body: ​The body of an email can be divided into the following three parts: salutation, message and
signature.
