Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Region VIII DIVISION OF NORTHERN SAMAR

Guidelines in Playing MATH O

Below are official guidelines of the Department of Education in participating and playing MATH-O. The concept of Math-O is derived from the Bingo Game, in which some of its rules are also patterned in bingo and some rules are modified. Still, this is a game of chance and luck. 1. To join this game player/s must be officially enrolled in the public or private school. S/he must be a District Winner in Math-O. 2. In every district, there should only 1(one) representative preferably from the Intermediate Level in elementary and Junior/Senior in High School. 3. All players should be housed in the classroom where no coaches are allowed to get inside the said room. (Coaches should be 30 meters away from their contestants.) 4. To start the game players should provide themselves with 2 BINGO Cards with a set of stones. The word BINGO in this card must be renamed/changed into MATH-O. 5. Players without MATH-O Cards are not allowed to play. 6. Calculator/s is/are not allowed inside the room. 7. MATH-O Card contains 25 squares with a number in every square. The middlemost square is a free space. 8. The proctor will read set of questions arranged from easy, average up to difficult one. (Proctor will draw a question from the boxes of Easy, Average, and Difficult questions) 9. For easy questions, players are only given 15(fifteen) seconds to solve just to find the correct answer including the act of placing the stone on the MATH-O Cards. When s/he has found his/her answer, s/he immediately looks at it in the MATH-O Card if that answer appeared in the card. If there is then, s/he should put a stone on that number in a square. If none, player/s will not put a stone on any square in the MATH-O Cards.

10. Doing the same process all over again, the player shall shout MATH-O, when the following situations occur: a. If all squares in vertical or horizontal lines of Math-O Card are filled with stones; b. If all diagonal squares are filled with stones; c. If four corners of MATH-O Card with four squares are all filled with stones; d. If the square labels Free Space is the only vacant square. (Applicable only for horizontal/vertical/diagonal positions of filled squares with stones) 11. Beyond this stipulated conditions above, whenever it occurs is/are invalid. 12. When one/two/three players shouted MATH-O, does not necessarily mean that the one shouting is already the winner. 13. Assigned teachers/proctors shall immediately check the positions of the stones and the numbers where the stones lie. If all numbers in which a set of stones had been placed are all correct, then, s/he will be declared winner. If not, s/he will not be declared winner. The game must continue. 14. Incorrect placing of stones to a number in a square will be strongly considered invalid. (It invalids only the card where the wrong entry occurred.) 15. In case of a tie and/or multiple of players win, a replay must be done considering the following conditions/situations; a. The first player to put three successive stones in the math-o cards with the correct solution or answer shall be declared winner. (The first three answers of the three questions read by the proctor are all reflected in the MATH-O Card.) b. In breaking the tie, if the first situation will not occur, well go back to rule number 10. 16. The player who will win shall have to represent the Division of Northern Samar during the regional competition.
