1. Write the balanced equation to produce the brown nitrogen dioxide (NO 2) gas
from nitrogen and oxygen cases. Calculate the enthalpy of the reaction if the
process occurs in the sequence of reactions given below:
N2(g) + O2(g) —> 2NO(g) H = 180 kJ
2NO2 (g)  2NO(g) + O2(g) H = 112 kJ

180-112= 68kJ

2. Methylhydrazine (N2H3CH3) is a common liquid propellant used in rocket fuels.

Look for the standard molar enthalpies of formation of the reactants and
products. Calculate the ) H for the reaction per mole of N 2H3CH3.

4N2H3CH3(l) + 5N2O4  12H2O(g) + 9N2(g) + 4CO2(g)

The standard enthalpy of reaction of the given reaction is -865.71 kJ

per mole of N₂H₃CH₃.
You have five 10.0 F capacitors. Show all the possible connections for the five
capacitors to produce a total capacitance of 50.0 F

Given:
The capacitance of each of the 5 capacitors = 10 F
To find:
Possible connections for the five capacitors to produce a total capacitance of
50 F.
Solution:
If there are 5 capacitors of 10 F capacitance then if we connect all of them in
parallel then the equivalent capacitance will be:
C = 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10
C = 50 F
Only, if all the capacitors are connected in parallel, then only the equivalent
capacitance will be 50 F.
Hence a parallel connection for the five capacitors will produce a total
capacitance of 50 F.

Suppose the space between the plates of the capacitor 50F is filled with equal
thickness of the same dielectrics but arranged as shown. What is its
capacitance?
The capacitors in Sample problems 2.6 item number 3 are connected in
parallel instead of in series. The combination is connected to a 100V line. Find
the (a) total capacitance, (b) charge stored in each capacitor, and (c) potential
difference across each capacitor
