TO THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCES OF

GRADE-10 STUDENTS AT NAPARING HIGH SCHOOL

INTRODUCTION

This study understands the factors affecting the student’s absenteeism to the grade 10 students
at the Naparing High School.

Nowadays there are a lot of development and dissimilarity that may encounter. Mostly

teens/students deal with absenteeism in their schools. It affects their health and their studies the other

causes are their friends, financial problem, lack of interest, etc.

In addition, low attainment of a student in their school not only in the academic success but it is

also high risk for future education that they want. As they've said it points that education is one of the

primer tools that people should have that lead them to success even though the transition from Junior

High School is very overwhelming and stressful experience form. Every individual should possess the

education system wherein it can help them aim the future that they wanted to be. Education has a lot of

benefits that can help to improve the life of every person. The more educated people are the more

responsible they can be.

One of the factors why students deals with absenteeism is the health of a certain people. Health

should take care a lot, it should give a lot of time to maintain a healthy living but also these health issues

include physical, mental, behavioral, vision, dental, social and emotional health problems additionally to

problems connected to a child’s close atmosphere like violence, housing insecurity and food insecurity.

As a result, ensuring that students can attend school in healthy school environments is a critical

strategy for addressing chronic absenteeism. A healthy school environment means students have

regular access to school health services, mental health services, healthy school food, physical education

and activity, healthy school buildings and a supportive school climate. Identifying and implementing

health interventions is a critical step to addressing chronic absenteeism and a key opportunity for

collaboration among multiple sectors, including health, education, public health and the environment.

These sectors must work together with others to ensure students are present, engaged and prepared to

lead healthy, productive lives.

Friend and financial problems can also bear with absenteeism. It can be possible that because of the

toleration of their friends and having no friend is hard to stay in class, sometimes it can be the

enjoyment they’ve get. Financial problems sometimes even if the student wanted to attend their class,

he/she would still to choose at home rather than attending without any pocket money, because

nowadays their surprising payment for a certain subject or a certain thing

This study gave understand to know the factors that may affect to the student also to institutions and

every teacher/professor to improve the studies of each student. It is possible to make student well-

disciplined and responsible. Moreover, there are a lot of factors may affect the absenteeism of certain,

but they should think the best for them specially their future sake.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In this study, the objective of the researchers is to identify the perceptions of Grade 10 students at

Jose C. Payumo Jr. Memorial High School on the Absenteeism. Specially, the researchers will answer the

following questions:

1. How may the respondents profile be described in terms of:

1.1 age

1.2 sex

1.3 section

2. What are the common causes of student’s absenteeism?

2.1 health factors

2.2 financial factors

2.3 social relationship factors

2.4 family problem

3. What are the respondents solution to solve the problem of Absenteeism?

HYPOTHESIS

Based on the literature and articles reviewed, the researchers will use this hypothesis:

H1: The perceptions of Grade 10 at Naparing Junior High School students are positive with regards to

the Absenteeism.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The Students: this study will serve as an informative analysis to educate them about absenteeism.
Identifying students at high risk and the most prevalent causes of absenteeism helps create evidence-
based solutions to attendance problems.

The Parents: this study will help them to accumulate more information about the factors of

absenteeism and it can help to support and guide the academic performance of their child.

The Teachers: this study may be able to be well-informed about the performance that shows by their

students.

The Future Researchers: this study is a potential reference for them and can add significant information

similar on their study.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

The respondents of the study will be the (40%) of the total 202 Grade 10 students in Jose C. Payumo
Jr. Memorial High School. The respondents will be randomly selected to answer the questionnaire that
will be used in this study.

The researchers conduct this study to understand the factors affecting student absenteeism of grade 10

students. The researchers took place at the Naparing High School. The objective of this study is to be

able to know and understand the factors of student absenteeism and to gain knowledge about it.

The first column shows the input of the process consist Factors Affecting Student’s Absenteeism

in grade 10 students which includes the respondent’s profile, common causes of student’s

absenteeism, factors affecting student absenteeism. The second column shows the process of the

study where the researchers will conduct unstructured interview and survey questionnaire. The

third column shows the output of the study where the factors will discuss and understand the

student’s absenteeism.

HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY

To provide more in-depth analysis and make the finding clearer, the inquiry tests the

hypothesis

NULL HYPOTHESIS

There is no significant difference in the Factors of student’s absenteeism in grade 10 at

the Jose C. Payumo MHS Jr. when group according to age, sex, and strand.

ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS

There is a significant difference in the Factors of student’s absenteeism in grade 10 at the

Jose C. Payumo MHS Jr. when group according to age, sex, and strand.

This study limits the information and statement about the background of all students.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Absenteeism – A tendency to be away from work or school without a good reason.

Avoidance – The act of avoiding something

Chronic Absenteeism – Missing ten percent or more of the academic year for any reason,

including excused and unexcused absences, suspensions and time missed due charging schools.

Emotional Problem – Emotional disability characterized by the following: an inability to build

or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers.

Mental Problem – Mental pattern that causes significant distress or impairment of personal

functioning.

Predictors – To say that (something) will or might happen in future.

Physical Problem - The poor physical condition; being out of shape or out condition.

Possess – to possess something is to have/own it. You can possess a physical object, you can

possess a quality or skill, or you can possess control or influence over someone.

Social Problem – A social issue is a problem that influence many individuals within a society.

A social issue has many categories in depth as well as light. It’s a common problem we see

happening in our society.

Toleration – The act or practice of tolerating something

Truancy – An act or instance of playing truant

Vision Problem – Decreased ability to see to a degree that causes problems not fixable by usual

means, such as glasses.
