➢ The General Assembly, the Security Council, and other organizations give the
Secretariat instructions on how to carry out the substantive and administrative
tasks of the UN. The Secretary-General, who oversees all administrative
decisions, sits at its helm. The Secretariat's primary duties include compiling and
preparing background information on various problems so that government
delegates can examine the evidence and offer suggestions. to assist in carrying
out the decisions reached by the various United Nations organizations. worldwide
conference planning to distribute materials and speeches in the UN's official
languages. to enlighten the public about the United Nations' activities.
II. The number of the member states
➢ The United Nations Secretariat carries out the day-to-day work of the UN as
mandated by the General Assembly and the Organization's other main organs.
The Secretary-General is the head of the Secretariat, which has tens of
thousands of UN staff members working at duty stations all over the world. And
193 member states, serves as the chief administrative officer of the United
Nations’ staff members are recruited internationally and locally, and work in duty
stations and on peacekeeping missions. Serving the cause of peace in a violent
world is a dangerous occupation. Since the founding of the United Nations,
hundreds of brave men and women have given their lives in its service.

➢ The Secretary-General has focused his efforts on ensuring that everyone has the
right to human dignity after seeing the suffering of the most defenseless people
on earth in refugee camps and war zones. He has acted in response to the
COVID-19 pandemic, the climate emergency, the advancement of gender
equality, and ambitious 21st century reforms to strengthen the Organization's
crucial efforts to secure peace, sustainable development, human rights, and
humanitarian aid by mobilizing people and launching action. He has done this by
drawing on his commitment to the UN Charter.

➢ World leaders are participating in the UN General Assembly’s annual high-level
session after a year in which the world organization has failed to respond
decisively to a series of crises and wars from Haiti to Myanmar. The UN looks

mitigate conflict, ranging from urgent humanitarian crises to steps to address
