3.3.3 Responses of RWA members regarding challenges faced during the
implementation, operation and maintenance of the RWHS

Parameters Challenges faced

Installation  No real challenges were faced while installing the system

as we hired our own labourers and masons to built the
system.

 None really since all households participated &

contributed to the costs.

Operation  No real challenges

Maintenance  Sometimes it is difficult to keep a check on the system

components before the rain starts

 Actually system needs regular cleaning as to remove dirt

leaves and debris from the rooftop

implementation, operation, and maintenance of the Rainwater harvesting system

Challenges Suggestions that need to be considered for optimal

functioning of the Rainwater harvesting system

Design related issues

-
Water quality issues  Regular cleaning of catchment to maintain water quality

Capital investment -
Lack of motivation  Campaigns and rallies should be encouraged to motivate
among users society residents and awareness should be created
amongst citizens of our country about RWH and how its
sustainable approach to manage water
 Awareness about RWH and its importance should be
created
Installation -
Operation -
Maintenance  Regular inspection and cleaning of catchment , gutters
and filters to prevent contamination
 Regular cleaning of the system before the arrival of
monsoon
Any other  Delhi govt should be proactive about promotion of
rainwater harvesting systems and should incentivize
funds as promised
 Govt. Should provide incentives as promised otherwise
it will lead to promotion and installation of RWH
