Lifting & Rigging

This procedure provides information for the erection of Steam Drum Boiler.

PURPOSE:-This Procedure is to make sure that all people involve in the

erection, assembly and welding of Steam Drum activity understand and familiar
to do the work with quality control system for getting quality result as per client
specification and requirement, drawing, standard and code

A safety officer shall be presents all time for Safety Briefing at site.
Job Safety Analysis (JSA) must be carried out for all crane lifts and all other
tasks that have potential risk to personnel of equipment.
Pre lift study before any lifting activity.
 Lift briefing and Safety briefing before any lift; assign responsibility to
all personnel involved. (Signalman, Rigger to crane driver, etc.)
 Ensure all equipment required for installation is on hand and in position
before lift i.e. Chain blocks, Hammer, and Spanners. Etc.
 Tag lines must be used to control lift.
 Ground conditions must be ready before activities.
 Set up safety rope around lifting area of Steam Drum area and put notice
board entered “KEEP OFF EXCEPT PERSONEL CONCERNED”.
 Lifting equipment should be in certification and tagged.
 Crane and other machinery shall be inspected and certified.

All conditions adapted to the lifting procedure. Prior to commencement of
lifting works, assuredly carry out check of lifting equipment.

Assembly and erection: - Erection steam drums accordance with the Erection
Plan and drawings.

PREPARATION WORKS: Preparatory works such as strand guides and

temporary scaffold access platform at top deck steel for Riggers and erectors
and other levels access for watchman at various elevations must be prepared in
advance.
LIFTING PROCEDURE OF 42.457 MT BOILER DRUM
 Drum shall be delivered with center offset towards HRSG II
 Restrain the end of drum with chain blocks to prevent drum from hitting
the column during its initial lift off.
 Lift the drum by approximately 100mm and hold it for 15 minutes while
all direct load bearing system are checked for any undue deflections or
connections non conformities.
 Once the system has been cleared for safe lifting, the wood/steel/concrete
blocks that are supporting the drum at ground floor are removed.
 Lift Crane by slowly.
 At this position, the drum shall clear the steel on both sides. A continuous
monitoring on the condition of the lifting system shall be done. The
watchmen shall continuous follow the drum while on its way up to check
for any obstruction along the way of the drum. If there is any obstruction
the watchmen will inform the lifting controller to hold the lifting until the
obstruction is cleared, then resume lifting.
 Lift both ends together until the highest end is clear - above the Elevation
17000mm.
 The lifting device shall be dismantled together with the temporary
support to clear the way for erection work to progress.

Load of Steam Drum 42.457 MT

 Total (Weight of Drum) Load 42.457 MT
 2 Nos. WRS dia 58 mm and length 5.0 mtr Each capacity – 40.0 Ton
 2 Nos. of Bow-shackle each capacity 55.0 MT

Safe Crane Capacity = 330.0 Ton (as per load chart with 75 % lifting capacity,
70 MT counter weight. 34 meter boom length and 18 meter radius, load lifting
capacity = 50.0 MT)
Reduced Capacity of Sling
 Vertical load of sling = 40 MT
 Measure length (L) = 5.0 mtr
 Measure height = 4.142 meter
 Reduction factor (RF) = 4.142/5.0 mtr = 0.828
 Reduction sling rating in this configuration = .828 (RF) x 40.0MT =
33.136 MT

INCREASING TENSION OF SLING

 Load of weight(drum) = 42.457 MT
 Rigging 2 numbers sling during vertical load Lifting weight (LW) per
sling = 21.2285 MT
 Measure length (L) = 5.0 mtr
 Measure height = 4.142 meter
 Tension factor(TF) =5.0 Mtr / 4.142 Mtr = 1.207
 Minimum vertical rated capacity required for this lift = 21.2285(LW) x
1.207 (TF) = 25.62 MT

Conclusion:-
 Reduction sling rating in this configuration = 33.136 MT is greater
than 30.0% of Minimum vertical rated capacity required for this lift
= 25.62 MT

DRUM LIFTING

Preparation

 Ensure the orientation of steam drum is correct.

 Before Installation of steam drum ensure all of the bolt have been
tightening
 Install barricade on the exclusion zone to prevent workers inside to lifting
zone area
 Safety tool box meeting must be done to explain dangerous condition that
may be occurred and how to prevent.
 Prepare all of rigging tools to be used
 Clear area from first tire until top tire, ensure there are no obstruction that
may obstruct during steam drum lifting
 Confirm to site in charge and all sub-contractor in Ms.Tessy Engineering
& Enterprises inform lifting area preparation and explain dangerous
condition that may be occurred
 Ensure that ground condition stability is enough to support transporter to
transport steam drum to lifting area.
 Prepare concrete block and soft wood as temporary saddle in order as
temporary placement of steam drum for cleaning and repair of steam
drum if there are any damages.

INSPECTION
 It is necessary to record all inspection during various phases of erection
progress and to verify inspection sheets are in compliance with drawings
